Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
I have to say the Trophy collection sucks in this game. I remember in Melee they had information about the character, their first appearance in a video game, insteresting tibids like that. Now the desctriptions are just stupid bits of text the developers wrote without much thought

For me, the joy in collecting is the high definition models. Some of the trophies are of characters that have never had an HD model before.ZeroAX wrote:I have to say the Trophy collection sucks in this game. Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

In that case, I've become enamored over some of the 3D models. I usually play with 3D off but I'll turn it on to look at many of trophies. The trophy for Medusa at max 3D wowed me.ZeroAX wrote:I only own the 3DS versionFlake wrote: For me, the joy in collecting is the high definition models. You are free to like whatever games you want. I was assuming a situation where we are comparing Wii's game library vs Wii U game library without including other consoles and competitors in the market as a factor. Also, I wasn't arguing who had better 3rd party support.
If you honestly believe that games like A Boy and His Blob and Mercury Meltdown are better than Watchdogs and Mass Effect 3 then I will not argue you with you. What I can tell you is, according to sales numbers, the majority of people highly disagree with you.

I don't know if sales numbers are the right way to measure a game's critical success. That's more how we benchmark commercial success. I think there are many, many games that have sold better than A Boy and His Blob that are not better, more enjoyable titles.

Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
Yeah, you're better of going off of Metacritic or Gamerankings ratings or something.
But even then, really it all just comes down to opinion.

He's got a point there, it's a fair argument in both cases. I'm no fan of the Wii library much, but it did have at least some decent and sustained third party support including oddly enough even Call of Duty titles. I'm not sure sales numbers are exactly fair, but then again they kind of say a lot when a system that sold so many more hardware units barely moves games gamers call 'gems' on the system while the popular stuff just beats out the sales on the units that sold notably less hardware. Attach rate is just as important as anything else.
Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
With respect to that though, it may be fair to say that it's too early to call. Even setting aside that most Wii U ports aren't the best versions, with the way things are going, they may not have much else joining them as the overall market shifts to 8th gen.RCBH928 wrote: You are free to like whatever games you want. There are a fair number of Wii titles earlier on that were ports or enhanced ports, particularly of PS2 games. Okami, Rygar, Prince of Persia: Rival Swords, Sakura Wars, etc.
As things shifted to the 360 and PS3, there were far fewer ports to the Wii.
Difference is, the Wii had the massive install base to keep lower-budget titles coming, a good number of which are good and unique (or unique on consoles). The Wii U doesn't have that, so as things stand now, third party support is likely to just dry up.
Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
Even if we choose ratings, here are the ratings of some the games I mentioned from Metacritic:
Mass Effect 3 (85) , Arkham City (85), Deus Ex: Human Revolution (88), Darksiders II (85), AC: Black Flag (86)
vs
a Boy and His Blob (80) , Mercury Meltdown(78), Ivy The Kiwi(74), Mushroom Men(72), Red Steel 2(80), De Blob (82) .
I guess what I was trying to say is, if I could pick 10 best games on the Wii and 10 best games on Wii U. Then I will decide to buy the Wii U. I didn't argue if Wii U had better 3rd pary support or bigger library.
