The Simpsons Game gives you an achievement for entering your name. Great spoof!

But yeah, the more interesting, the better. Not just fill bar X.

I like them personally. Gives me a bit of a good feeling, like I accomplished a goal.

Re: Achievements - How do you feel about them?
I have a love hate relationship with them.
I love them when they are within the realm of reality, not luck based, and aren't online based. I like 100% games every time I can. Certain games its night on impossible though, due to online achievements, or ones that are just totally over the top. I'm looking at stuff like the Gears of War games with the Seriously achievements, or some of the Killzone online stuff, etc. I'm honestly wary of certain PS3 games now because I'm scared of going nuts about not being able to get online achievements because the multiplayer bases are too small.

So long as it is a part of the game. I dislike how Steam handles their achievements. There is no quality control to ensure they work, companies can add achievements later whenever they like, and achievements don't have to be based on anything in the game. For instance, Dungeons of Dredmor has an achievement for drinking a beer with the developers.
Re: Achievements - How do you feel about them?
I greatly dislike achievements. They're just obtrusive and the only real seeming goal for them is just for online bragging. I would love nothing more than the ability to disable the or even erase them if you want from your account (especially if you get rid of a game.) The stuff like the above post about forcing multiplayer online, luck based stuff, or things with challenges most people could never hope to pull off just seems sadist and un-fun, yet it also seems dumb to just have them for turning on the game or seeing a cut scene. I'm glad that Nintendo never really adopted them.
Re: Achievements - How do you feel about them?
When I'm really into a game and think there's some replay value and or I'm doing replays, they can be a nice bonus. Otherwise they're just kind of there to me.
Totally guilty of being one that was a bit obsessed when they first came around though, but yeah I kind of hate how they're in everything now. It's nice playing stuff on the Wii U every once and awhile where there's no such thing. I've kind of come to loath the Xbox chime for it, but the Playstation once isn't as obtrusive or distracting so it's okay. lol

Re: Achievements - How do you feel about them?
I like to disable them because I find achievements distracting from the actual game itself. They can be immersion breaking. As far as actually obtaining achievements goes, I find the activity to be worthless personally. But I can understand how pursuing achievements in a game can give it longer legs than simply being done with it once you've beaten it. So in that sense I guess achievements help people get more of their money's worth out of a game.

Re: Achievements - How do you feel about them?
They exist, depending on my mood of the day (or the game) i like them or hate them. Since 99% is for stuff you actually get by... you know just playing the game normally (BEAT CHAPTER 1-1!!! Good for you kiddo take this candy and keep playing our grey, generic third person shooter!) i dont like them. But sometimes i just like the name they put on like that one on red dead redemption undead nightmare you find big foot and the throphy for that is called "7 years later", that's nice. That's maybe the only reason why i haven't turn it off on my PS3.

I didn't know you could disable trophies on Playstation 3, is that also on PS4 as I'll turn it off right now. They're distracting and annoying.
