Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
I looked at some of the Ultima series screenshots but the graphics are horrible. I doubt I can play a game that looks that bad. It even looks bad for its era. Maybe from Ultima 4 its acceptable.
Which is considered best of series? Why the series is no more?

how is cRPG different than a console RPG?fastbilly1 wrote: They pushed CRPG's forward with many concepts that were created or perfected by them and became industry standards shortly after.
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Console RPGs (usually jRPGs) make you a character with a largely linear path to the end. Early on there wasn't much story, but when they added story, you were intimately involved, even if you didn't have much ability to influence it.
cRPGs tended to be a little more open-ended, without much direction or railroading. There was usually a proper, or at least recommended, path, but most cRPGs didn't really give you much but vague hints to point you there. You could largely explore anywhere you wanted. There was story at times, but even if you were the Avatar, the key to the solution to the world's problems, the story wasn't intimate. You tend to be a nameless or faceless hero. The consequence of an open world.
Not sure that's what you were getting at, but there it is.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Ultima's graphics are still pretty rough until about Ultima V or VI. IV improves over the first three in that you have more than CGA.
As for why it doesn't exist anymore, most CRPGs died out in the mid 90's, and Ultima was not excepted from that fate. The last entry, IX, was pushed out in a terrible state.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
People playing smash bros online need to start taunting with some guts and dignity online. Anyone can throw out a taunt or do some little dance when their opponent is flying off in the distance, but it takes actual courage to slam down a taunt right in a Fox's face as they come down from a fox fire, or reading someone's retreat and responding with a risky taunt.
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Funny enough, my personal favorite is actually Silent Hill 3.AppleQueso wrote:It does a lot of stuff differently, so nah.noiseredux wrote:is it weird that I think I like the first Silent Hill more than the 2nd?

I am not this good at the game.DannyMcGee wrote:People playing smash bros online need to start taunting with some guts and dignity online. Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Best taunts are ones you use to kill people with.
I remember killing someone with Elena's taunt in SF3:Third Strike. One of the happiest days of my life. Killing someone with Dudley's/Sean's/Ken's/Yun's taunt is impressive, sure, but those are actually decent attacks that simply do 1 point of damage. Elena's is borderline unusable, so actually getting a kill with it feels too damn good.

I think it might be mine too, actually, though it's pretty hard for me to pick. I love the first three games.Ack wrote:Funny enough, my personal favorite is actually Silent Hill 3.AppleQueso wrote:It does a lot of stuff differently, so nah.noiseredux wrote:is it weird that I think I like the first Silent Hill more than the 2nd?
4 is kinda neat too, if highly flawed.
