Ultima and Wizardry are more or less where a lot of the still-used elements of CRPGs originated. Ultima was (I think) the first to start trying to tell more than a barebones story, incorporate morality systems, use party combat, and so on.

Ultima IV is free these days if you did want to try it.

Complex open world RPGs with a lot of freedom of moral choice plus intimate detail in the environments with high interactivity. Not everyone was a fan of the skewed isometric viewpoints, or having to play as a "virtuous avatar".
PLAY KING'S FIELD.

Ultima 7. Living world. Crazy details. Lots of fun. Skyrim tried to replicate it. Didn't quite do it.

I'm a Resident Evil virgin. I once owned RE4 on the Wii but got rid of it. A few years have gone by, I think it's a game I can play now. I just picked up RE4 and REmake on the Wii. Which one should I play first? Or does it not really matter?

well those are prob the best 2 in the series. If you want to play a "real" RE game, play REmake. If you want to play an RE action game, play RE4. They're both great though. I'd personally recommend doing 1 then 4.

Princess Toadstool is a real man's choice when it is time to Smash Bros. She's violence in a dress.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
