Admissible as a valid charge? Or admissible as solid evidence?prfsnl_gmr wrote:That is, a statement by the person accusing Bill Cosby of rape would be admissible to prove he raped that person.

The statement would be admissible in a court of law as evidence.Exhuminator wrote:Admissible as a valid charge? Or admissible as solid evidence?prfsnl_gmr wrote:That is, a statement by the person accusing Bill Cosby of rape would be admissible to prove he raped that person.
Testimony from the victim accusing Bill Cosby would be direct evidence admissible to prove his guilt, and I don't think a prosecutor could pursue a case against him with out it. (That is, I don't know how you could possibly prove a rape case if the alleged victim testified, "No. He did not rape me.")
That said, the vast majority of the accusations against Bill Cosby relate to events that occurred many years ago, and various statutes of limitations prevent prosecutors from pursuing charges. Moreover, to prove that Bill Cosby was guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, a prosecutor would probably need physical evidence or testimony corroborating the victim's testimony, and that evidence probably is not available any more.

Re: Bill Cosby
I've always liked Bill Cosby as a comedian, so I'll admit I'm far from unbiased in this topic, but there are a lot of things about these allegations that don't sit right with me.
First of all, how did so many people who were allegedly raped upwards of 50 years ago take so long to come forward and say anything? There have definitely always been media outlets and lawyers who would gladly be all over a case/story like this.
Also, with the accused method of rape being drugging in every single story, that would mean that it's nearly impossible to prove innocence or guilt given that this all happened decades ago. And seeing that generally in the public eye, especially with celebrities, people tend to instantly believe rape accusations, it leaves Cosby with very little he can do.
I think the two most likely scenarios are that the majority of his accusers are just jumping on the Bill Cosby rape bandwagon and trying to get something out of it, with only one or very few actually being victims. Or Bill Cosby never actually raped anyone.
Either way, this whole situation upsets me. Rape is one of the most horrible things a person can do, and allegations of it should definitely not be overlooked, but false allegations of rape are something that will follow someone for the rest of their lives. So basically there is no good end to this no matter what actually happened. If he's innocent, he has to spend possibly the last few years of his life dealing with his crumbling career. If he's guilty, then it's pretty obvious why that would be bad for both his victim(s) and anyone who's ever looked up to him.
