Good post Ryan, it's like one I made in another thread here basically chocking up the collector who goes too far as like a disease, a hoarding issue. You get into this mode where things never feel done or complete so you just keep going and going despite the fact it may bother you. It's hard to pull away once you get in, especially if the IN has been for years or even decades. I've gone from a couple thousand a decade ago down to under 300 games and far fewer systems. I still get the itch, still think I wish I had my GB/GBC stuff but the last time I bit on that one maybe 5 years ago if that it didn't last but a year before I didn't see the point. With prices up now, buying is just a bad idea unless you really need it because it won't be so easy to add up stuff and then flip it away later and not lose.
I still sit here now working at home with the big shelf next to me here and I see everything but the tray of gba games I have in a drawer and it feels like a lot but it's not. At least it's not when you factor in starting 30 years ago. I like my PS4 and 3DS, Wii U is there too, but I don't have a heap of games and maybe a dozen between the 2 new consoles but 3DS sits around 20. I've slowed it but I haven't stopped, it's the backlog that depresses you and I've been selling off back log instead of dealing with it because it's just a drag. I could never imagine today owning 400 games for a system, had near that for the NES maybe 5 years ago and I saw how tragic it was the time wasted cleaning/servicing the stuff and then using it once to test it out and that was it on much of it -- such a waste. At least the money went to other stuff I did use more for the most part.

Re: Overwhelmed, maybe some advice:D
Basically when I bought the 360 I finished every single game I was buying, a lot even doing 1000 points for 100% achievements... Then there were more games I could play and an endless backlog started forming... During my intensive studies I basically went to lessons, studied and played games in my free time for approx 6 years...
I was still buying a lot of games, but I was also finishing a lot (I was gaming for 35-40 hours a week solid.
When I finished and came back home though, real life, work etc. caught up with me but I didn't really STOP buying games (Even if my rate slowed down considerably).
There's still a completionist itch within me, sometimes even for 100% achievements (which in reality, achievements are probably a total waste of time to hunt).
What also bothers me is the either low prices offered from some people to buy my collection or the enormous amount of time required to put them up on ebay one by one. I'm not even sure it's worth it, probably easier to just keep them
One thing I 98% decided last night is to get rid of my PS2/XBOX collection of "gray area" games (When I was a teenager, there weren't many original PS2/XBOX games arriving here and the few that were, were ridiculously expensive. Therefore, modding these consoles and actually buying cheap "deluxe" copies (professionaly printed with artwork/manuals etc.) from shops was legit practice...
Of course, this is no longer the case now, so It would be easier to "forget"the money spent on these games and I already ordered from ebay a couple of ones I really liked (meaning, I ordered legit originals

What makes you think you won't do the exact same thing with this new generation - buy 400 games and only have played 1/4 of them?

I am unsure but the hope of a new start always helps
Re: Overwhelmed, maybe some advice:D
You could give up your 360 and invest in a gaming PC and get a backlog in Steam instead!
Re: Overwhelmed, maybe some advice:D
Something that has worked for me is, I always keep the receipt of the game in the case on top of the manual. I will occasionally open up a game and look at the date I purchased it. I am sometimes really surprised to find out I haven't even tried the game and its been 5 years. I look at what I spent on it and how long its just sat on the shelf. Sometimes that curbs my appetite to purchase more.
Also I like to stick to only purchasing used games and never for a current generation console. I like to read the reviews and watch game play of it on youtube first.

Let me give you advice.Keep your stuff. I am the KING here of remorse buy and sell. Don't do it. Box a bunch of games away. Just play 10-15 a month then switch over. Don't sell it. I learned my lesson.
Re: Overwhelmed, maybe some advice:D
Not a bad idea there joe. I tend to do that with games off and on over the last few years that I buy used. It's a reminder of play it or ditch it, and if ditch it is a loss then it's more the reason to bother playing it.
All I know is there's regret with this, and then there's relief after being put out of your misery. Be sure to know which is what will happen when you let go stuff. If you think you may strongly wish you could have played something, keep it, but if you really don't give a damn, haven't for a good while, and would feel like someone cut the anchor away from your neck that's holding you down -- let it fly. I've been letting go of anchor games for 4+ months now so I can get a new laptop and it's a relief watching the backlog vanish.

Re: Overwhelmed, maybe some advice:D
Yesterday I took out some of my games and kind of did the "keep it or ditch it".
I had a certain itch to replay some games but I booted them up and just felt "i played this enough" and put them on the ditch it pile...
However, ditch it just means = box them or shelf them.
It's funny that I have no doubt that I want to keep the games I already somehow completed (even if I didn't really enjoy them much) but I'm only considering selling the ones I never touched.
Now, selling them or even gifting them feels like an "easy way out" and I'm convinced I'd regret it if I did that...

You won't, especially on something you never played before. If you don't know what you are missing out on, the only regret there is your own problem that caused you to have that much in the first place getting in the way and you need to ignore that and move on. Once you clear out the stuff you've never used and never cared to in years, it gets better. Then you can move onto stuff you have and never got into and doubt after years you will change your mind about too. Remember 360 is basically a dead system, the price of the games are and will continue to bottom out and stay low. The 360 is a risk machine more than anything due to the grossly high failure rate on so many of them so it's not exactly a favorite
