Definitely one of the coolest speedruns I've seen in awhile. None of that TAS stuff either.
It gets pretty crazy in some of the later levels, lots of game changer moments. If he fell off X ledge on some parts, the entire thing would have been over probably.
I'm fairly good at Doom myself and can do UV, but the pros pouncing around without a care and half the time not even bothering with pickups while memorizing the layouts/secrets of each level so well, it's nuts.

Damn, this is pretty crazy. I'm gonna have to watch the whole thing when I have the time.
Re: Doom 2 beaten in 23:03
It gets cooler midway in I thought, when the levels get tougher and more complex. Having just run through the Doom collection on the PSN, I kind of laughed at some levels that stalled the run a bit and couldn't be sped through too quickly. The Chasm was one, I bet he fell off those tiny walkways a few times before and that probably ended the run instantly.
I wonder if a speedrun of TNT or Plutonia is possible. Those are way harder...

What's really interesting is comparing it with a Quake speedrun.
Granted, these are all separate level runs, so some levels are ended at a point that would prevent you from the fastest time on the next one, but the kinds of tricks in the Quake speed runs are so much crazier, imo, than the Doom 2 speedrun. Doom 2 seems to come down to mostly knowing the exact triggers you need to hit to get through the level (as opposed to full clearing) and the effective weapons to use against certain monster hordes. Then there's the couple of glitches related to squeezing through certain holes and a couple of rocket jumps over gaps.

I remember watching this awhile back and getting disoriented haha. No doubt it's crazier. I think that's what I like about this Doom 2 run though, it's really bare bones and vanilla, plus you can't really sequence break a level based game compared to other speedruns out there. There were some well aimed super diagonal ice skating parts and I never knew about the squeezing through trick, or the Arch Vile being able to open up any door. So it's a bit different than some speedruns, I guess.
I remember the Duke Nukem 3D runs being really ridiculous, a bit more in line with Quake since the engine did a lot more, there was jumping, and more complex level design. Watching it now... it's almost disturbing, like the players memorize the controls/timing and don't even look at what's going on on the screen. lol
I'd say this perfectly sums up what I mean:
Gets me curious about Jedi Knight... I'm seeing runs at 25 minutes, I bet these are awesome.
