Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Sega Krazy Kid

Post by Zalphier »

So, yeah. It's been a while since I've actually made a game, but now I'm back in the act. I'd like to make this game a great one, but I'm ganna need some help.

Some notes on the screenies:
The black slopes are temp. I'll most likely change the character sprite as well. This is a very early preview.

Here are some Minor Details.
2-d: The Game will have two different views, the side view, platform mode for action stages. And top down, exploration type of deal for cities and such.(also to connect levels)
Character: A Crazy Sega fan. I guess we could gain dialog and personality traits from most people here.
The Items: Alot of random Items, for example, Power-ups would be sega systems. Also, items from past sega games could make an appearance.(i.e. the shoe power up from sonic the hedgehog)
The Stages: I'd like to make original stages. Possibly though, game themed stages.
Enemies: well, essentially, sony, nintendo, and microsoft.
Allies:Cameo appearances from sonic the hedgehog, alex kid, NiGHTS, and others.

Now, the game put together:
CODING:
Now, This game is going to be made in Gamemaker (gamemaker.nl) And I will be using the built in programming language(gml) If you know how to use gamemaker, you're definatly a help.
GRAPHICS: I need someone(s) to create graphics for me. Trust me, I'm no graphics artist.
STORY:I'm hoping that the community will help with this. People, feel free to give ideas for the story.
MUSIC:All original, if you make music, please feel free to donate to the cause. I'm hoping this game will have a very catchy soundtrack

If you feel like contributing in ANY way, please tell. If you can help, I will add you to the developement.
Also, if you have yahoo or msn, please tell me for easy communication.
Even simple things like Ideas are useful.
(note, this will be on windows)

Sounds interesting :)
But I think you would get a lot more interest if it was for the Dreamcast....

I might be able to help with artwork every now and then. I'm not much of a sprite artist, but I could do title screens, menus, and such...

Cool, everything helps. I would be programming this thing for the dreamcast( trust me, I would if I could) but I don't know C. If I knew C, or knew some people that knew C, than it could be done.

What languages do you know?

C isn't too bad -- although I've never used it for game programming.

The only programming language is GML, which is built into game maker(game maker language)
While it may not seem it, gml is a full programming language. It's basically simple Delphi. It's the only thing I took the time to learn because all of the tools are built right in. It's quite a heck of a lot easier. (also, this is free)

Anyway, I got the basic platform engine built in. Slopes and all (though this is no real feat.)

That's cool :)

I know/knew a bunch of different languages, but game programming always intimidated me, so I never gave it a try.
I was a professional COBOL programmer for about 3 years after college, but I'm trying to get away from coding other than some minor stuff for the site.

It'll be quite a while before I can show the public much anything, and it'll probably be even longer before I can show something playable. I can show development pics, if you want.
