Do you own any repros or fantranslated carts? Which ones?

Post by Erik_Twice »

I bet there are a few posters here who have reproduction carts or simply carts with a translated rom in them. But for which games? Tell me! :)

I have a modified rom cart. For my wedding I changed the title scroll of Legend of Zelda (my wife and I's favorite game), to be about us. Then renamed the items to be the wedding party.

Alien Soldier
Eliminate down
Battlemania 2
Panorama Cotton
Undeadline
Twinkle Tale
Gleylancer
Grind Stormer

and a few others laying around that I got along with purchasing the above. And no, they look nothing like the originals, for those that worry about such things. :)

All but Grind Stormer I just can't afford anytime soon, but wanted to play on original hardware, and they were a VERY fair price. Grind Stormer, I just didn't want to deal with dead/dying cheap Tengen boards, so I will buy V-V when I do finally get a legit copy.

No. I can read enough Japanese to play non-English JRPGs and the like, and importing a game from Japan is less expensive than a repro the vast majority of the time. Additionally, I have a Retron 5 which allows me to apply English patches to games.

Personally speaking, I'm also not crazy about the cart cannibalization that's used to create many of these repros.

I'll admit that the only two repros that continue to intrigue me are Radical Dreamers and BS Zelda, as neither one was released as an official cart in any region.

I have Gradius II and Im Kid Dracula NES retrozone carts. SNES I have Starfox 2 and SDF Macross. That's it though. I have a Retron5 and about 1/2 my Famicom games have IPS patches stuffed on a small SD cardin the back I'll load up for those.

I did have that Mother 3 cart and DWM Caravan Heart for GBa but sold one, the other died and erased itself in the last month. I sold that one too and in testing before mailing it was dead so I refunded it which sucks. If money flowed better, I had more time, and I could get non-chop shop crap but new chips and boards Id get a good few SNES titles I believe.

All of the cart-based games listed as Japanese region in my Backloggery are repros/translated ROM switchouts except for Lagrange Point. And that one I'm hoping to get translated by someone once I have a working setup that plays the original cart. I've also got a Star Fox 2.

I have a Seiken Densetsu 3 translation. But it's on an original SFC cart that included the original rom chip so it can be restored. I'm pleased with it, and if I were to get any more repros, this is the way i'd prefer them to be done.

I do have a couple of Genesis repros too. Gleylancer, Undeadline, Thunder Force IV, Hellfire and Grindstormer. But nothing that could be mistaken for originals.

I actually just ordered one a few days so Daze Before Christmas will be my first repro.

I like doing themed games for holidays so I thought this would be a fun one outside of my usual romp in Christmas NiGHTS.
