What single player FPS campaign are you playing?
Re: What single player FPS campaign are you playing?
It's interesting how AI development starts with creatures that move in fixed paths, then immediately goes to bots that hunt you down like an animal. The real tricky AI to develop is human-like enemies; i.e. enemies that are good but not perfect.

I see you're still tearing up the FPS's Popo, I went a little crazy during my break as well.
52. Bioshock* (PC)
53. Bioshock 2* + Minerva's Den (PC)
54. Bioshock Infinite* + Burial at Sea 1-2 (PC)
55. Wolfenstein The New Order (PC)
56. Half Life 2* (PC)
57. Half Life 2 Episode One* (PC)
58. Alien Isolation (PC)
59. Half Life 2 Episode Two* (PC)
Also played chunks of Serious Sam 3 and Shadow Warrior.
Now, some might scoff at me for this... but I'm honestly not feeling Shadow Warrior much. I have no idea why or what it is, it just hasn't been doing much for me. Even though the sword is amazing and the crazy style, abilities, and rating system makes it feel like FPS Devil May Cry which is awesome... it's just not pulling me in. I can't figure out why. lol
If you haven't Popo, the new Wolfenstein is a must play.

Which Shadow Warrior, the late 90s one or the remake?Xeogred wrote:Now, some might scoff at me for this... but I'm honestly not feeling Shadow Warrior much. I can't say much about the original either, because it's balls to the wall difficult. I'm a UV Doom kind of guy, but I've always felt like the Build Engine games are 10x harder. DN3D I love and have beaten a few times over the years, but it always feels like I can barely make any progress in Blood or Shadow Warrior. Enemies duck and cover and bam you're shot once there goes 60% of your health. lol
Re: What single player FPS campaign are you playing?
I admit, I've only played through the first couple of levels in the original Shadow Warrior and I've never played the first Blood(I've beaten the second...don't do that. Don't play Blood 2). I've got access to both of them and really need to get around to playing through them at some point, but I have so many other games and so little time these days.
Duke3D on the other hand...yeah, I get what you mean.

I think both Blood games are good, much better than what I've played of Shadow Warrior (which I tend to give up on after a bit every time I pick it up). Even if you didn't like Blood 2, Ack, you should still go back to Blood at some point...Ack wrote:I admit, I've only played through the first couple of levels in the original Shadow Warrior and I've never played the first Blood(I've beaten the second...don't do that. did you ever read Racing The Beam? This was a concern going back to Pong. AI has to be good enough to be a challenge but also "human" enough to not be unfair. You're playing against 'a computer' that shouldn't feel like you're playing against 'the computer.' It's a tough line to walk.MrPopo wrote:It's interesting how AI development starts with creatures that move in fixed paths, then immediately goes to bots that hunt you down like an animal. Yeah, I played New Order back when it came out when I started seeing reviews that called it a perfect mix of the old and new school.
I think the reason Shadow Warrior is so balls hard is that the mooks have near-hitscan weaponry without a cone of fire. The mooks in Doom and Duke 3D have a jitter to their fire that keeps them from utterly trashing you (which is what makes the machinegun ones from Doom 2 so deadly; the inaccuracy doesn't help with that fire rate). The Shadow Warrior mooks just utterly drain your health right off the bat.

Plus don't they throw instan-kill guys at you in the first level? Those ghost things or what not.MrPopo wrote:Yeah, I played New Order back when it came out when I started seeing reviews that called it a perfect mix of the old and new school.

I will eventually. I know they're very different in their engines and all. But Blood 2 left a bad taste in my mouth. The expansion for it was a lot better but suffered from a lot of the issues I had with the base game.dsheinem wrote:I think both Blood games are good, much better than what I've played of Shadow Warrior (which I tend to give up on after a bit every time I pick it up). Have any of you guys played the other Build engine games? I mean like William Shatner's TekWar, the Witchaven games, Extreme Paintball, NAM, Redneck Rampage, Exhumed, etc.? I've played a bit of Redneck Rampage but that's all.
Re: What single player FPS campaign are you playing?
I played Redneck Rampage (and the sequel) back when it was new. I liked it then, but not sure how it has aged...I think I have a CD of it around somewhere. (EDIT: I have this only it seems. Wonder if the hours are still good...).Ack wrote:

I have messed around with Exhumed enough to feel pretty meh about it.
