Pushing for the "perfect chain" on Stage 1 is driving me nuts. I have had it very close a few times - I've had vaunt the whole way through when you can first do it to the start of the boss and racked up about 420K - but then it peters out just as the "raining" enemies appear.
I think that's the best you can do. I certainly haven't chained the entire level. I watched some replays of higher scores on Divine and Judgement (described as 'Max Combo' runs) and they only chain up to the boss as well. As for Stage 2, I don't think it's possible to keep the chain going from the 1st to the 2nd section either (when you arrive at the ruins of the town). The gap is just too big.

I think I've managed full chains on Stages 3 and 4, though (like Stage 1, not including the boss). The bosses are like separate chaining sections. Once you learn the attacks, you can get a few decent combos there too, which is key if you want to boost your score. There are a lot of points to be had on the Stage 3 boss, in particular.

I've definitely done this. It may have been on Divine difficulty w/more enemies, but i've definitely done it. You need to milk the last larger enemy as long as you can and kill him just before he bolts off screen, let the ingot fall as far as it can to the bottom, then go top left about 2" from the top of the screen and take out that first swamp enemy pod.

What a rush. Started with a crap 1st round and was considering a restart but figured i'd let it roll and see how stage 2 started. Ended up playing stage 2 well, didn't keep my chain through the boss fight as I usually do so while I hadn't died, my score was not great through 2 stages. Kept it running - got to 3rd boss completely flush. Ended up dying once on his final form, but finally have him figured out. Stage 4; the music somehow gets even better on stage 4 - so so good. Made it to the boss unscathed but then biffed it once on his final form, but still pulled through. Stage 5 is a choose your path stage - lost my last 2 lives in a hurry - should go into Normal mode and practice a bit before getting back there:

I had a Visual C++ issue as well, fixed it by re-upping my display and audio drivers --

But I wasn't able to launch at all at first, so you're getting a different issue from me.

Not sure if we're thinking of the same section. It's here, between 1:05 and 1:15:

I haven't tried it too often during Gauntlet, as I usually play it safe against the sniper planes and don't want to lose a life cheaply. I might try it out in stage practice to see if I can pull it off.

Nice score, by the way!

Where is our boy foxhound? Looking for him to carry us this round just like he did round 1. :)
