Most folks that I know have considered the series growing less and less relevant for the past several entries.Pulsar_t wrote:Finished the SP story in CODAW on PS3, and it's basically the same stupid, rehashed Michael Bay-esque formula since CODMW1. What single player FPS campaign are you playing?

Whenever I see COD I just remind myself of 1 & 2. I really don't want to see how much it evolved from its roots.
Catacomb Abyss man, whoa. I played that shareware version years ago. Nice 3D but really rough on the colors.

What!? You don't like fluorescent blue and green? I really enjoyed the shareware when I was a kid and thought it was leagues better than anything I had played. Doom didn't have magic so that immediately means it sucked!ExedExes wrote:

This was of course around the time I also played Nitemare 3D which was an FPS version of Hugo's House of Horrors...so...you can only really go up from there!

Those blob enemies are the most annoying thing in any game I've ever played.MrPopo wrote:I finally finished Quake last night. That fourth episode was nasty; it ended up being a precursor of things to come in Doom 3. Lots of use of enemies hidden in pure darkness who wait for you to come by before checking your prostate. And the newly added blobs who bounce around and explode when they die.
The final boss was an interesting idea of having you win through telefragging, but it makes the fight itself somewhat anticlimactic, as the level is set up as a single path to the portal, you blow your way through some monsters with your overpowered lightning gun that has plenty of ammo, then sit and wait at the portal for the telepoint to get inside the boss. There really isn't a press of monsters to force any tension at that point.
When I fought the boss, I didn't realize that you had to wait for the spike ball to go inside her. I had to look up a walkthrough.

It's still a top seller and that won't be changing anytime soon. Even Kevin Spacey was wasted on this.Ack wrote:Most folks that I know have considered the series growing less and less relevant for the past several entries.Pulsar_t wrote:Finished the SP story in CODAW on PS3, and it's basically the same stupid, rehashed Michael Bay-esque formula since CODMW1. Been playing through Wolfenstein 3D via a ZDoom TC for resolution and control remapping purposes. Simple, fun stuff.

I think modern COD campaigns are fine for what they are. I've enjoyed all of them for various reasons. I really liked the space stuff and dog stuff in Ghosts, for example.

We need more FPS's with playable dogs. The only other ones I can think of are Rise of the Triad and ... Rise of the Triad. Really tragic.

I am playing CODAW campaign, I usually play FPS campaigns on hard, but this time I jumped it up to the hardest mode. I am getting a lot more life out of the game, even if it feels cheap at times.
You know what you are getting with these games and just like films, every now and again I just like to watching shit blow up while one dude saves the world, it's no Schindler's List or Godfather, but its still enjoyable.

I snagged MoH: Allied Assault since it's on a flash sale on GOG for $2.50. I remember playing this back in my high school days but I don't think I ever beat it. I do remember enjoying it so it'll be good to play it again. I think the thing that stuck out most when I first played it was how you get an M1 Garand for so much of the game, when coming off of basically every other FPS where you get various kinds of automatic weaponry with magic clips.
