I discovered I could get R-Type Final for PS2 from GS for like $2! Except there isn't a store near me that has it in stock...

I love me some R-Type, but I'm not driving 90 minutes away to buy it.

I have had some bad times with Gamestop in the past. They have practices and policies I don't agree with. However, they bring this to us tomorrow:That's a big brownie point for them this month.

You can also get from the bandai namco store which uses amazon for checkout. So if you have prime, free 2 day shipping.

Interesting. I'd read last month that Namco was only offering the game digitally. That means that Gamestop is false advertising with the "GameStop Exclusive" tag a bit. Oh well, typical GS.

That's sleazy but that's Gamestop. They did the same advertised lie about the 3DS Circle Pad and Xenoblade despite Nintendo making it clear only on their website and like one 'release' general mailer that went out in email you could get it from their online store too.

It's always nice to see a Tales game not get ignored. I haven't been able to play one in a few years other than Abyss on 3DS.

It's still a "retail exclusive" right? I don't see that as "sleazy" since they are the only store you can walk in to and buy one...

I consider misrepresentation sleazy. I don't recall them calling it a retail exclusive just an exclusive, but that was a few years ago on Wii/3DS. I put it right in the same category where MS got caught calling that new Tomb Raider game a One exclusive, people howled, then SE-said it was timed, and then MS didn't even back off that.

Far as I recall, the only alternative to Gamestop was direct from Nintendo, and even then I think they only did preorders (that's how I got it). It's the same kind of thing here. You have direct from the publisher, online, or you can get it at retail from Gamestop.

Rise of the Tomb Raider was clarified as a timed exclusive by Phil Spencer the day after the presentation.
I don't disagree that it gives them a way to phrase it that doesn't account for later ports, but it's not like MS has tried to convince people otherwise when try to clarify.

I was going to cancel my Gamestop preorder, and go with the Amazon prime deal. Turns out you have to actually call Gamestop to cancel a preorder from their website. You can order a game online but you can't cancel it online. I'm not calling some random person and then have to explain why I don't want to wait on shitty shipping when I have prime and how they duped me with the "exclusive" crap.

Instead, I will calmly wait for my game. And then I will never buy another thing from Gamestop again. I should have known better anyway. This is not the first time I've dealt with their shenanigans.

I always took "GameStop exclusive" to mean "GameStop is the only store that will stock it". Buying it right from the publisher is almost always an option, isn't it?

Whatever the case, I did order Tales of Hearts R from GS. I actually went to GameStop, bought a $50 gift card, and then went home and ordered the game from their website - having it shipped to my house. That way I won't have to head to the store to pick it up... Though I'll likely drop by there within a week anyway.
