Correction... gotta new high score here. It's like I am just learning how to really play this game at the 0 hour. Oh well this is it for me though. I am calling it a night.

... A 9yo just smoked me.

If I didn't have to work for another 9.5 hrs I'd be drinking right now

JoeAwesome - The Fighting Mongooses - 686,170 - Stage 3 - Silver Sword - Mame

Not much luck in improving. Sorely disappointed to not break 1 mil, but this'll be it for me for the week. Very good game, and worth coming back to.

Doc and Dsh let you down, Dave. :P

There is such an easy trick to get at least an additional 300K and if you do it perfectly, up to a million+ at the start of stage 2.

In a way I regret this being a tourney so we all could have talked more strategy

There are really 24+ unique characters; each with a strong suit, by hitting A, you get the character you see, by hitting B, C, or ABC, you get a different version of that character, A is normal, B increases your speed, C reduces your hitbox size but do note, your hitbox picks up items, so that is also reduced. ABC increase speed and reduce hitbox.

Each character has correlation to enemy icon release, killing a popcorn with Wild Snail might release gold medals, the same enemy killed by Silver Sword will release something else. Finding the best fit for you takes a lot of time.

All of the bosses can be milked. This is done most easily by choosing a weak character, but more effectively with a powerful character and patience, picking it apart and doing a lot of waiting a round. Taking out each piece one at a time and milking the red bullets (cancelables) on the bosses can add up quick (but can also add deaths up quickly as well).

Also, of all the sounds in all the shmups i've played, the 10K medal chime in Garegga may be the best of them all. Having your chain at 10K right before the farm field at the end of stage 2 is just magical. Love this game.

I *WAS* told of the trick right at the beginning of stage 2, Doc recorded a nice little video... but as noted, I'm just terrible at shmups

I think I got to the point I needed to get to for that point boost... three times. Twice with the Necromancer, and I couldn't manage his bombs right to get anything, and once with Wild Snail but I didn't have any bombs left because I had burned them all in a "OH CRAP I'M DYING!!" rush to survive just a little bit longer.

It's all good, I'm enjoying the attempts if nothing else. I have zero problem making a fool out of myself for my own and other's enjoyment. I said my goal was to not be the absolute lowest score all 4 weeks -- one week down, 3 to go!

No worries dude and glad you are enjoying it.

The trick to the flamingos lies in stage 1.

Stage 1 gathering bomb material should be the focus. Getting a modest chain going is easy afterwhie, but I wouldn't focus on that, just bombs and picking up your options (which make it easier to garner all the bomb materia).

Do not bomb the first boss. If you die, that is better than bombing.

You should start stage 2 with 2 bombs in stock plus a little material. By the time you reach the flamingo huts, you should have 2 and half bombs, bomb to release dead center on the hut, once that bomb dies off, bomb dead center again on the scattering flamingos, this will expose 4 more bits of bomb material, plus the half bomb you still have, quick scoop those up and bomb again. You should hit around 1mil there and have the first extend.

Yup. My score isn't my score. Don't be so quick to claim "let down".
