What Are Your Favourite Games Designed for PC?

Post by grandta13 »

I, personally, am tired of all these poor quality PC ports with constant crashing, glitches, and general incompatibility. Recent experience with these has made me wonder: 'What good games are there that were actually designed with a PC in mind?'

So I open this subject here: What are your favourite games that are designed for PC gamers?

Like, recently? Or ever?
If we're saying ever, then I'm saying Half-Life 2. Because ... Half-Life 2.

I honestly can't say I can think of anything too modern that isn't fairly 'indie' that rolled out through GoG or Steam which is sad. Now if you want to get into the period of 1990-1995~ roughly then I have a good list of things and really even still stand up pretty well. You can research the games as if some aren't really obvious.

Wolfenstein3D, DOOM and DOOM 2
Wing Commander 1(+2 addons), Wing Commander II (+2 addons)
Tie Fighter, and also the earlier X-Wing (both fighter pilot games like the above)
Star Control, and also Star Control 2 (look for Ur Quan Masters as a freeware version of 2)
Kings Quest (in particular 5)
Dune 2 A Building of Dynasty, and then Command & Conquer which followed it
Warcraft, and Warcraft 2(+addon)
Guild Wars (I put a better part of 5 years on this one, still online community too)
Call of Duty (+ addon) and Call of Duty 2
Sid Meier's Civilization
Sim City Classic (modern freebie of it is Micropolis), also Sim City 2000
Pinball Dreams, Dreams 2, Fantasies, Mania and Illusions (Pinball Gold Pack on GoG.com)

Yeah if you are talking of all time, we can talk for an absolute eternity. We are talking about games like Baldur's Gate 2, Fallout 1 & 2, Arcanum, Planescape Torment, Dark Sun: Shattered Lands for RPGs.

Space sims I would recommend, Wing Commander, the X-wing/Tie-Fighter series, Freespace and privateer.

Want adventure games? King's Quest, Space Quest, Quest for Glory, Police Quest, Leisure Suit Larry, Monkey Island, Maniac Mansion/Day of the Tentacle, The Dig, Full Throttle, Grim Fandango, the Longest Journey and the Myst franchise.

Want modern games? Mount & Blade: Warband, Civilization V, The Witcher, The Sims 3, Minecraft, DayZ, Tabletop Simulator.

And that is just me freeballin' there. An almost infinite number there as I am a huge retro PC game player.
