Know what you are saying, but people's expectations play a lot in this. People expect to pack a a lunch for a retelling of LOTR or KING KONG. But I don't think casual movie goers expect to sit through nearly three hours for a Batman movie that has very little batman in it.

But yeah, as with Michael Bay, I think people are saying "well, it's a Nolan movie". Which if you like it or not, you have to give the dudes credit for having their craft recognizable. It's like art. Doesn't matter if you like Picasso or not, you recognize his work. Not something easily achieved.

That said, if a movie feels like a chore to watch, you've lost the audience. And we've all had "watch checking" moments while viewing a film wondering "how much more of this?". It's a terrible feeling.

I always like long movies if they are good. But I also like long novels/series and long video games, so I guess it makes sense...

This criticism applies to Peter Jackson as well.

What about Michael Bay?

I'd like it if he just stopped making movies altogether.

No doubt. I felt that way during Man of Steel. That's a real shame too. I'm a fan of Superhero movies, and I'm a fan of Zack Snyder. Logically, I should have loved Man of Steel. Nope. It was just too damn long. I spent the last half hour hoping the movie would just end.

I had a, "runtime," check on the last movie I saw, Life of Pi. I am sorry folks, I thought that movie was trite. Sure visually, you can make the argument that it looked great, but the actual substance involved seemed forced and intentionally meaningful. I felt no real connection with the main character, nor did I feel that the storytelling was conducive with the setup of telling it to a book writer. I honestly felt like the film took forever to finish and was a waste of time. I was really looking forward to seeing it as well.

Yup. Last one for me was Man Of Steel also. First and only movie I ever walked out on in my life.

"Shut Up. Think." Two of the many basic rules of criticism. This comment is not aimed at you, at all, but it speaks volumes.

I liked MOS on my first viewing. I also loved Superman IV, so there you go. But I thought MOS was so different, so non-Superman that it should be hailed as "THIS is the NEW Superman!".

Boy was I wrong. Watched it, maybe a day later, and hated it. really, really hated it. Hate is a strong word, But I do hate MOS. Why? Horrible writing and disaster porn. There is no reason to watch this movie especially if you like the character that is Superman.

I wrapped up October with Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Was my first time seeing it surprisingly, but it was pretty epic. I really enjoyed the cast.

Not sure what i'll watch this week/weekend. Everyone was talking about Gone Girl so maybe i'll watch that. Or Nightcrawler.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) is one of the most underrated horror movies of all time, and it is much, much better than the 1956 original (which is still very solid). The final scene is perfect, and I am glad you enjoyed it.
