Re: Quake Live Beta
I can't play it in a browser window and it needs to be installed, two things that quake live sells itself on.

Been playing this here and there since it went public. Unfortunately score tracking is disabled for now because it was causing issues since it went open beta.
Re: Quake Live Beta
Open Arena is a great example of what a group of guys can program in their spare time. However it is not the same as Quake 3. It plays sloppy, it has some clipping errors (though most of those have been corrected in the last release), it likes to lock up randomly, and it still does not have the compatiblity they initially stated with Quake 3 mods. The first three can be forgiven for now, but the last is something that will always keep it down. Half of the fun of Quake is the mods and by not supporting them makes it inferior by default. Heck until the Open Arena Mission pack comes out and you get Harvester the game is lacking.
Dont get me wrong, Open Arena is one of my favorite games for small lan parties. Its legally free, fairly stable, and can be alot of fun. But they still have a lot of work to do to come close to the real deal.
And to take the topic off topic, Quake II logo on its side is the symbol for the Euro, discuss.

Quake Live seems to be a good idea. Fucked if I know what it's like in practice. I haven't been able to get in since it went open beta. I'm still looking at a 6000+ queue right now. Moving at about 4 places a minute...
I'm not waiting in a queue for a day just to play Quake 3...
That's even if my place in the queue goes down steadily. I've seen it jump up a few places sometimes.

I'm in the open beta as well, I just haven't played much because of the damn queue.Niode wrote:Quake Live seems to be a good idea. Fucked if I know what it's like in practice.
