You can still keep big collections neat and clean. A good storage system is a start.Japhei wrote:I wish mine could be as clean but I have thousands of games and accessories so shit is every where!
I used to help a good friend of mine and local business owner import arcade machines. His personal collection included 3 rooms of consoles, 2 rooms of arcade PCBs, and an entire warehouse of arcade machines (oldschool originals as well as newschool candy cabinets). I would put his collection closer to tens of thousands of games - definitely the largest I've ever seen anywhere (in real life or on the web). Yes, many times larger than yours, Japhei.
Despite having so much gear, it was all neat and organised. It didn't start that way, and it took us some months to get there. But it all started by us going out and buying proper shelving and boxes. The end result meant that even with that much stuff, we could find anything in seconds. Much better than the random pile of crap it started as.
He's still got a pre-collection area of disorganised stuff. But that's usually stuff that's just been bought (he spends a lot of time trawling local markets, garage sales, and other places where you can pick up gear at bargain prices thanks to people who don't know what it's worth). So it goes there as a temporary staging and sorting area until it goes into the organised collection.
Here's just a small shot of how it looked when we started organising just his arcade PCBs (merely cleaning them up and getting them boxed, no sorting/shelving yet):

At the time that was about 1/5 the collection (I couldn't fit it all in one shot). It's grown considerably since then. Moral of the story is still the same: anything can be sorted and organised if you're willing to put in the time and effort.

Sweet. I like the new shelf. I particularly like the smaller shelf divider thing for the portable carts. Nice touch.

its Mahogany. Dad gave it to me for when I head off to college in 3-4 years. The divider works extremely well. I could modify it to hold genesis carts but I feel its more suited to holding the portable carts (cant tell you how many ive lost cause i couldnt find a place to put them, then they disappeared)ubelaffe wrote:Sweet.
