Reproduction cardboard boxes?
I know there are superior plastic alternatives, but I wonder if it's possible to reproduce a SNES cardboard box to match repro carts.

Re: Reproduction cardboard boxes?
Yes people make boxes for SNES and NES home brews and repros. It is cool if you're looking for one that never existed before, but pretty annoying if you're looking for legit old boxes sometimes. I was going to say to look for Uncletusker on ebay, but it looks like he got booted as links to his store are dead and my feedback from a box I bought from him before says "no longer a registered user". His listings weren't full of weasel words like others and the box I got for Terranigma looked great..

I don't like this idea, and don't think this is good for the future.

Well there are boxes out there but no one seems to use the right cardboard so they have some tells, the easy one being white cardboard on the inside. I'm all for choice so if someone wants an accurate box, great, at least it matches as it should and if you want a piece of plastic with that art sleeved into the outer cover of the shell that's nice too. I'm definitely not in agreement with control freak collectors who attack or verbally destroy people who wish to that option.

I think there should be some tells that they aren't original boxes. Look good, but not be too hard to tell where they can be used to fool people into thinking they are something they aren't.
Anyway.

Yes custom boxes are very common.
Finding repo boxes being passed off as originals is also becoming more common.

I just want a box to match the game, I don't plan on reselling the carts or anything so confusion isn't an issue. In fact, if I really could, I would translate the actual cover too. But alas, that's hard

I think copies of the real deal are all fine and dandy but only if the seller discloses it as such. I think sullying the box so it is somewhat or clearly wrong is just doing a disservice. I look at it with any other collectors thing out there from the little items up to cars. Let's say you're restoring an old Shelby Cobra, clearly there are a lot of kit/repop parts that are pure duplicates of the originals only lacking a hidden tell only a trained eye would know, they don't just use cheap chrome, plastics, or bad off matching paint so everyone feels safe. I see no reason why labels and boxes should be made dim wit proof. Get aware, ask questions, get good pictures, and pay accordingly for it being a repop or original, and if it's just a do-it yourselfer job, then mark that as a custom like they do with custom cars too. There should always be a choice, not gestapho attacks and enforcement against that to serve some self centered selfish need to drive values.

Is Uncle Tusk's website down too?
*this is a serious question, I'm at work so I just know it's blocked, but for all I know it's just a "Out of business!" page that's blocked*

It said down for maintenance the other day, as it still does right now.
