Not anytime soon, no, but Mass Effect was given as an example for good reason. The 360 release was published by Microsoft, though the PC release (and the sequels) were published by EA.

Eventually, it did land on PS3 as well, published by EA.

Bayonetta has already done that, in a way, since Nintendo is publishing the Wii U port of the first game, not Sega.

At this point though, sure, I wouldn't hold my breath for a port.
Long term though, it wouldn't necessarily be all that surprising.

Have there been any Nintendo published games on their own platform, that were later ported to a different platform and published by a different company?

Sure, Final Fantasy 1, Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie, and Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge.

In the cases of FF and NG, those were merely local publications. The Banjo games are the only instance I can think of where Nintendo funded games were eventually published elsewhere by another publisher.

There were other Rare games. MS published a port of Perfect Dark for the 360, albeit only on XBLA. There was also the Goldeneye remake.

Lucasarts also published the PC version of Shadows of the Empire, the year after Nintendo published the N64 version.

Nintendo published, and Nintendo published and bankrolled are two different things. One they just release it for a company in a region, the other they're paying for the games development but aren't the developer. I don't see something they paid to get made showing up somewhere else as they're just not that stupid to not block that in a contract somewhere in the fine print.

The Capcom 5 was just a promise, a deal for 5 games from Capcom but Nintendo didn't pay for those, and ultimately all that came up was PN03 and then RE4 which then Capcom decided to shiv Nintendo over by 1mo before it came out telling people in Japan to not buy a Gamecube essentially beacuse once the exclusive window was over the definitive version would be out with added stuff and Ada Wong. That I remember pissing off quite a few Nintendo fanboys over at their now closed down forums. I thought it was pretty classless doing it too after making such a big deal to pull the rug out but it was how Capcom has been in relation to Nintendo consoles with the N64 as they had been leading along the system owners for years with stories.

Perfect Dark I believe was also Rare owned IP when the split happened. As for Goldeneye remake, from a legal perspective it's a new adaptation of the Goldeneye film. They touted it as a remake of Goldeneye for the N64, but that was just pandering to nostalgia.

"As I have said earlier, if you want Bayonetta 2 on PS4 or Xbox One, how about trying to ask Nintendo… If Nintendo doesn’t say yes, it’s not going to happen… While you’re at it, try asking for Mario and Zelda too…"

Oh wait... that's not so comforting. But hey, we should believe some random guys in a retro gaming forum thread instead because what the hell does he know?

Keep on waiting guys. In fact, do us a favor and start holding your breath now. I'm sure the PS4/XBone announcement will be out any moment.
I would believe them but I have been following videogames news long enough to tell that exclusives are all lies. The only exclusives I know about are IPs owned by the console manufacturers like Mario for Nintendo and GT for Sony .

Everything else got ports, or HD upgrades, or digital downloads in the future. Only games that sold poorly will not get ported, but sometimes they do I guess.

Viewtiful Joe was published as part of the Capcom 5 deal on GameCube as well. It wasn't ported to PS2 until about a year later.

Things don't always get ported - it depends on the stakeholders. Games typically get ported because stakeholders earn additional money when more copies of the game are sold... but only if the projected profits are worthwhile. Unfortunately, profit becomes harder to evaluate when one of the stakeholders is also a platform owner who values exclusivity.

There is a meaningful difference between paying for an exclusivity agreement and actually becoming a stakeholder in the game by funding development. From the examples of ported Nintendo "exclusives" so far, only the Rare games seem similar (both funded and published by Nintendo). How long did it take for them to get ported to other platforms? Will Platinum be bought out by a major platform owner in the same way that MS bought Rare to gain access to the IP? Despite strong critical reviews, is Bayonetta the type of game that other platform holders want to throw money at to have appear on their console? Hmmm...

People will believe whatever they want. It's certainly possible that Bayo 2 will be available on other consoles eventually. But the odds of playing it on either PS4 or XBone look extremely small at this point in time.

This. Nintendo published Megaman 6 but the game was totally bankrolled by Capcom. Platinum has come out and admitted that without Nintendo's backing, Bayonetta 2 was not a thing that was going to happen. I highly doubt that the contracts the companies signed were not explicit that this is a Nintendo exclusive.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
