um....typoe I hope....you mean one save file....right?
In the original Dragon Quest you can only save by talking to the king in the starting castle. As you level up you'll get a spell that will return you back to the castle for easier saving.

Its just too short for a whole month. Fwiw I wouldn't have voted in Ys either.

Plus, I haven't played either Wild Arms or Grandia, so I'm looking forward to either of those.

If a game is "too short" you could always play through multiple ports. That's what I did with Lost Vikings this year.

Besides, you have a month window to play the game - it's not like the game actually has to take a month to complete.

8-bit RPGs are not as popular I guess.

Well, Enix never bothered their arses to release a mainline Dragon Quest game in Europe until DQ8 so that's part of my reasoning for choosing Grandia.

For sure, I know it doesn't have to be a month-long game, but DQ isn't even a day long. There is no window for discussion as I am playing the game. Once I sit down, I'll finish it, and... then yeah, I guess I could discuss it afterwards, or before playing another port of the game. I realize this is how it works normally, but I think an RPG month should have a bit more meat to it personally.

Playing Grandia or Wild Arms just sounds like more fun. Clearing an area, killing a boss, getting sick gear, then coming here while I am still playing the game to discuss it before diving back in. That is something I would not really do with DQ.

And hey, I like Ys, that was the point. I don't dislike DQ, I just don't think it lends itself to as interesting a discussion style as the other two games would. And, I've never played the other two games, so that helps too.

What? HLTB averages it at 14 hrs. That's not an afternoon. I mean, I guess if you've played thru it a bunch of times you could sort of rush through. But for most dudes, this would be a longer game than Metal Slug that we did last year.

This is a pretty big one for me too. And I've played Wild Arms and found it to be serviceable but mediocre, so I'd rather we try something else. I hear Grandia's battle system is pretty cool, but I know almost nothing else about it.

What I know about Grandia is that my brother played it for 14 hours straight the day he bought it and it made him feel ill. He never played it again.
