Sega Turbo Cockpit is still a grail I wouldn't mind owning one day :(

8bit, that is one incredible looking place... I'd spend all day in there and maybe come out for a bathroom break.. Maybe

i have an Outrun mini currently and i love it. going to pick up a Super Hang-On standup later this week, too. my goal is to get those two next to an After Burner and Space Harrier, and i'll be ok with my classic Sega setup for a little bit. a liiiiittle bit.

All right, I'd say I'd be back, so let's get to it.

Yes. What a great series. I've 1CCd the 1st and 2nd games, and just was able to play 3 a few months ago, and did a lot better.
BogusMeatFactory wrote:One of my favorites was Power Drift. This arcade we had, had a very strange version of the game with an actual car you got into and crazy hydraulics that tilted and moved with the course. Nothing was more exhilarating than being tilted down towards the ground as you sped down a hill. Oh man, those were the days.
I haven't encountered much of Power Drift, but they had other "moving" cabinets like Galaxy Force II which rotated 360 degrees as well as move up and down. Also G-Loc with its up and down cylinder-like cab.

I love me some Sega Turbo. That's one game I'll always work to get better at. Getting over 20K isn't easy. I actually won a real life high score contest as a kid at our local rec center on that game.

I'll add another recent game -- Jambo! Safari. Uses pretty much any Crazy Taxi cab, you had to capture animals to "research" them. Used the throttle to toss ropes and nets, but you had to steer accurately to keep the animals targeted lest you waste time with misses.

It appears a rather watered-down version came out on the Wii also.

I'll finish this long winded post with Sega Super GT, also known as Scud Race outside the US. One of the first Model 3 games, it looked amazing and had a killer soundtrack, it's the only game music CD I bought from Japan on eBay.

Two others I remember being pretty prominent in my local(ish) arcade (which was in the cinema) was the Lost World: Jurassic Park cab and the Star Wars Trilogy Arcade stand-up machine.

Both were pretty great and I was a bit disappointed neither made their way to the Dreamcast. (IRC the Lost World was shown in early DC press releases as being a launch title.) There was a much more common stand-up version of LW and a much less common sit down variant of the SWA as well.

For me it was different. More sit-down types of Lost World and Star Wars Arcade. The uprights were far more rare, and perhaps it was a better thing, as the SWA standups never felt right to me control wise. I think the sit downs had a little more resistance with the control stick, allowing me to target far more accurately. The uprights were always much looser and as a result, ending a game in about a minute

I have several favorites from the Arcade:

Daytona USA is one of my absolute favorites. It can't be beat. That one time we all linked and raced at our Racketboy Meet-up was a favorite of mine.
Space Harrier as a sit-down cab.
Super Hang-on.
After Burner with the motion control cabinet.
House of the Dead 1 & 2.
Star Wars Arcade & Star Wars Trilogy Arcade.
Sega Rally Championship
Virtua Fighter 2
Playing Golden Axe II at Pinball Pete's with BogusMeatFactory.

Things I'd really love to see one day:

-A Fantasy Zone Arcade Cabinet. I love the ROM of Fantasy Zone that's include on the Sonic's Genesis Collection Disc, and it plays the best out of all the Fantasy Zone's I've experienced. To play this at a cabinet would be a dream.
-Samba De Amigo Arcade. BogusMeatFactory once told me the arcade version of this game is absolutely amazing and eclipses even the Dreamcast version of the game. I couldn't imagine what that even means, because I love the Dreamcast version, and find the Wii version mediocre.

And dat soundtrack.
I remember playing that game as a kid and loved it. I forgot all about it till you posted this. Played it on an emulator last night. I don't remember all the cheap hits pissing me off as much back then lol.

Dude! The end levels of that game were insanely cheap! Those one-hit-kill tentacle pits were both sexy AND dangerous!

Although I really do feel that the arcade Golden Axe 2 is far superior to the original. Are there any sega compilation games out there that have it?
