So, I recently got a minty conditioned Wii off eBay for next to nothing, knowing that it wasn't working properly. After receiving it, the only issue is that when you turn it on, there is no Audio/Video. I can tell that there is some sort of signal, as the TV recognizes an input, but nothing comes up on the screen, nor is there any sound. First thing that came to mind was that the previous owner bricked the unit via custom firmware, but after contacting them, the owner was a mother who bought the console for her kids and "it just stopped working", so i'm a bit in doubt that this is a bricking issue.
What are the chances that it's the bluetooth module that has come loose/died and is causing the boot failure?
Anything else I should look at when I open the console up?
Wii A/V Repair Diagnosis?
Re: Wii A/V Repair Diagnosis?
Did you try using different (confirmed working) AV cables? It could be as simple as that.

Yeah, I fortunately had an extra set of cables to test with that I know work and am getting nothing out of them.Ziggy587 wrote:Did you try using different (confirmed working) AV cables? It could be as simple as that.
Re: Wii A/V Repair Diagnosis?
this sounds exactly like a WII i bought broken off ebay , same symptoms as yours. I contacted the seller and he said the WII fell over and now no Video or Audio , what happens is the Bluetooth or WIFI Module comes loose and wont boot.
with mine i reseated the Bluetooth Module and boom back to working state , try reseating the BT first and it sometimes takes a bunch of attempts to get it right. If it doesnt work try the WIFI , other than that its possible the BT or WIFI Module has died altogether which to check if they have died swap from another working WII and test. If it fires on you'll be looking for a replacement which are dirt cheap
good luck

Alright awesome, I appreciate the input. I've already got it disassembled so i'll go ahead and re seat and try to boot it up. Will post back here with results.s8n wrote:this sounds exactly like a WII i bought broken off ebay , same symptoms as yours. Re: Wii A/V Repair Diagnosis?
Disassembled everything to the mobo and re seated both the wifi and bluetooth board multiple times to no prevail. Random question: would the console boot if the dvd drive is unplugged? I made sure to try booting both with it unplugged and plugged in it's still giving me the same problems. Any other ideas other than buying replacement modules?
Re: Wii A/V Repair Diagnosis?
yes the WII will boot with the DVD Drive not connected , checkout ebay i found the prices really good
Re: Wii A/V Repair Diagnosis?
Should I pick up a replacement for both the wifi and bluetooth? Is it confirmed that the wifi can also cause Wii A/V problems?s8n wrote:yes the WII will boot with the DVD Drive not connected , checkout ebay i found the prices really good
Re: Wii A/V Repair Diagnosis?
yes i read somewhere the WIFI can cause A/V problems as well as the BT Module
Re: Wii A/V Repair Diagnosis?
I had a similar thing happen with my Wii, though it was a gradual thing. Over time it would randomly decide to boot to black screen, though I could get past it by resetting a few times. Eventually it gave up the ghost, and I tried replacing the Bluetooth module to no avail. You can snag a working console-only Wii from ebay for about $40, while replacement BT and WiFi modules run about $10 each. Add to that the hassle of disassembling and reassembling the console (since it's so compact it's a real pain) and it might just be worthwhile to get a new Wii. With custom firmware you can easily get back any WiiWare or VC games that were on the old console, so all you're out is save files.
