Ocarina or Twilight Princess?
I am borrowing Twilight Princess and Ocarina of Time for my Wii... which should I play first?
Re: Ocarina or Twilight Princess?
Ocarina of Time was the more memorable of the two for me. Honestly, I often forget Twilight Princess came out at all. I enjoyed Ocarina more overall.
But Link to the Past is still my favorite of the series.

Not to sound negative, or start a Zelda war but does it really matter? There both the same game at the core only differences is you change into a wolf this time and the graphics have been updated. While I admit Twilight was good, Zelda is in need a major gameplay and storyline rehaul. I've been playing the same game since 1986. Back to your question, Twilight I think has aged better than Ocarina. Twilight refined what made Ocarina so good from graphics to gameplay. Link To The Past is the undisputed king of Zelda games though hands down, what a adventure.
Re: Ocarina or Twilight Princess?
I feel that twilight princess can be beaten faster than Ocarina. So I would have to say play ocarina of time.
However I recommend the Wind Waker actually. To me thats the better of the 3. Sure the graphics are cell shaded, but really that isn't a problem to me as the adventure is quite different than most zeldas.

The Wind Waker is very good and does have different feel to it but, I found it next to impossible to obtain everything w/o the strategy guide. Some of the item locations were very random with no clues in game on how to find it. Wind Waker has to be my 2nd favorite though.Peffico wrote:I feel that twilight princess can be beaten faster than Ocarina. So I would have to say play ocarina of time.

Ocarina of Time for sure. Not to say Twilight Princess was bad, but when I finished Ocarina of Time for the first time it felt like such an accomplishment. I have no real explanation but that's my opinion. I'd play it first just due to the fact it was made first, I prefer being chronological on games release dates.

Well if the rumours are anything to go by, it sounds like the next in the series will be very different. A lot darker, and with a hero of questionable sanity. It almost sounds a bit spooky.corn619 wrote:Zelda is in need a major gameplay and storyline rehaul. I've been playing the same game since 1986.
But it could all be BS as well. Either way, it's fairly obvious Twilight Princess was rushed. Not that it's a bad game, just that it was all over too soon. It could have done with another 12 months of development, but that would have pissed the fan base off. The problem with such "epic" games is you can't just punch them out willy nilly.
Re: Ocarina or Twilight Princess?
wasnt the development of TP delayed by years already? so long that it ended up being a wii launch title?
anyway I'm off to play TP right now

Don't mess with my Zelda.
Look...for better or worse the series does what it does really well, better than any other game (barring Okami) that attempted to do something similar.
Ocarina of Time has lost a lot of its' lustre over the last ten years. I don't want to sound like a snob or anything, but you really had to be a gamer at the time to appreciate what it was. In terms of creating an emotional attachment between the gamer and the characters/story, well, no one did it better before and arguably since.
For me, Ocarina is the pinnacle of the series. Yeah, I love ALttP as much as anyone, but Ocarina just slayed me on every level.
Twilight Princess is certainly a heavy homage to Ocarina right down to the Hyrule Map, but it introduces some great gameplay elements, particularly with the "wrestling" of the oxen and Gorons and the ceiling walking with the gravity boots. That was awesome!
I'd say play Ocarina first just so you "get" some of the things in Twilight Princess...
As an aside, anyone who didn't tear up at what happened to Kakariko Village has no heart!

I spent 60+ hours playing TP, and that doesn't include that endless dungeon in the desert.elvis wrote:Either way, it's fairly obvious Twilight Princess was rushed. I'd say shoot for Ocarina first a few reasons. TP is a refinement of OoT in many ways, so by playing OoT first you'll see where the stuff in TP comes from. Also, it's older and might have less impact on you as a player if you play through TP right before OoT. OoT is just a bona fide classic and if you can play it so that it has more impact on you, you should. I like TP much more than the conventional wisdom, but it's true that it's not too much of a departure from OoT so play the original 3D take on Hyrule first.
