Hey, so I don't really know much about this kind of thing, but I'm starting to want to. I did that light gun mod Racket showed everyone and was totally amazed that it actually worked. I even made a second one.
So now I'm trying to do this mod: http://www.gamesx.com/importmod/gen2nomadbutton.htm
It's a switchless region mod for the Sega Nomad. I tried my hand at it tonight but realized midway that I don't really know what I'm doing. It says you have to "cut the jumpers currently hard-wired". What are the "jumpers", and what does it mean to "cut" them? They even have little scissors icons that indicate where to do it, but I can't make out what it's pointing to. Are the jumpers those solder points, or that black square box and the silver circle?
Any help on this would be much appreciated.

I don't know how to cut jumpers, but the scissor icons are clearly indicating the contacts identified as JP1 and JP3.

I did this mod some months ago, took only a couple of minutes, only did region though, no PAL - NTSC, "cutting the jumpers" means you'll have to scratch the board with a needle so that they no longer make contact. Throw me a PM tomorrow around noon and I'll get you some pictures if you want.

I tried taking some pictures today, but they came out awful, I'm getting a new camera this week, so I can take some later, however, it's not that hard to figure out what to do.
Take an Xacto knife or a needle and cut down these that join the jumpers, be very careful with this, it shouldn't take too long.
This picture from the gamesx tutorial is pretty much all you need. If you need some more help, add me to msn. It's in my profile here

Re: Trying to mod Nomad, don't have enough know-how
Well, I redid it, and good sign number one is that it's reading games. In fact, it's reading both my US games and the few Japanese ones I picked up.
However...
It seems a little strange, and I don't know a great way to test it. I threw in the Japanese copy of Streets of Rage (Bare Knuckle), which I now realize wasn't region-locked to begin with, but this is the weird thing: During the intro text, it actually checks for the region in real-time or something. As long a I hold the Mode button, it displays the Japanese text. If I let go, it switches to English, like mid-sentence. I released the Mode button when it was in the middle of loading the title screen, and it came out saying something like "Streets of Knuckle" with some fuzzy code in the middle.
Plays fine though.
Anyway, I guess my question is, does this mean I messed it up, or is that just how Bare Knuckle is? Any better game to test it with?

The US Streets of Rage version is region locked (will give you an error screen if you boot it on JP mode). The mod seems to be working well, the Japanese region locked games as far as I know will only check the region when booting up.
You can try any game from this list to test out the mod.
