Not technical "help", but... my Xbox 360 plays PAL DVDs

Post by REPO Man »

I've tried it out with region-free DVDs, all of which were downloaded off the internet and burned to blank DVDs.

I've done it with a few DVDs that absolutely REFUSE to play on my other DVD players.

And according to GSpot, the VOB's are, in fact, PAL. They're 23fps and they have PAL's native resolution.

Does anyone else's 360 do this?

And no, I haven't tried with anything other than R0 and R1 DVDs, so foreign Regions are still untested.

Region Free and Region 1 should work fine, i think its when you get into other regions youll have the problems.

I havent tried yet..... but as far as I've seen the 360 is a great dvd player in general. better than the ps3 ive heard. They probably didnt care as much in regards to limiting the playback, so thats +1 for Micro$oft. -100 for f'ing the heating problems in the first place, but still. :-D i love my 360 btw.
Got: Atari 2600, Atari 7800Pro, Commodore 64, Odyssey 2, Sega Master System, NES, Genesis Models 1-3, Nomad, Game Gear, Sega CD Model 1, Sega 32x, SuperNES, GameBoys, GameBoy Pocket, GBC, Sega Saturn Model 2, GBA, Nintendo 64, Playstation, Sega Dreamcast, Playstation 2 Slim, Nintendo DS Lite, Xbox 360, Gamecube, PS3 Slim

I would put them even. The PS3 upscaler is amazing but I think the 360 has generally better audio output on DVD's.

Repo, I have the same problem with my 360, only mine plays only Latin American region DVDs. I sent it in for the RRoD, and now it wont play American DVDs. I'm gonna send it back soon.

You guys actually play DVDs on your 360?

Are you completely deaf or do you have it in a separate room or something?

I could never watch a DVD on my 360 with it buzzing away at 50/60 dB.

Same here. I only use the 360 for video if I need to watch something in DivX. Luckily games can be installed now, so that cuts out a lot of noise when playing.

Actually, I don't really notice the loud noise that you speak of.

And I don't bother installing games on it since it takes up precious space (I don't have one of the new HDD's, just the one that came w/ my system back in the summer of '06).

Seriously, are you deaf? I bought a bigger TV so I could be further away from that thing...

Trust me, I'm not.

I guess I'm just lucky. I mean, my 360 CAN play PAL-encoded DVDs.

Long overdue update, but... it won't play non-R1/0 discs.

Tried with my copy of Taxandria. My region-free DVD player with PAL-to-NTSC conversion was in another room. So I played it on my laptop.
