Wii-U thoughts so far
Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
Yeah they just suck if you don't have the system and you have such mental issues you can't stand waiting for a few months or a year. The problem is lying about it, then lying and misleading more after being called out on it when your own game developer sells you out saying it's not exclusive. That's the problem in this one case. Underdog with MS or not, or even if it was Sony, I think people still would have blown a flap over it because it was manipulative across many levels from the buyer to also the people who review their stuff to get buyers interested.

Microsoft, or rather, Phil Spencer, was the one who clarified that it was a timed deal...which was what, the day after the announcement?Tanooki wrote:The problem is lying about it, then lying and misleading more after being called out on it when your own game developer sells you out saying it's not exclusive. They used a poor choice of wording, since "exclusively on Xbox for holiday 2015" or something would have communicated things correctly.

Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
So I've been thinking about the Wii U a lot lately. I was an early adopter and have more than 15 games for it already (which is a significant amount considering my buying history and how the console is still relatively new). I really like the system and haven't regretted the purchase.
Right now though, there are a number of games that I want but won't pay current prices for. Bayonetta's demo convinced me that I will eventually own that game, but I won't pay new price for it. I want Hyrule Warriors, but paying full price for a Warriors game seems crazy when I look at how quickly they (generally) devalue. I've wanted Sonic Lost World since release, but it feels like a $19.99 game to me, and I haven't seen it hit that price yet. I will own Smash Bros eventually, but I'm sure I'll wait for some form of discount. I wish I had pre-ordered it at first opportunity as Future Shop had a great deal during E3 2013. Captain Toad will be fun I'm sure, but again, I can wait.
Any other Wii U owners feeling the same? I suspect my large backlog doesn't help.

I feel that way about nearly every console I own since my backlog is GIGANORMOUS.elricorico wrote: Any other Wii U owners feeling the same? I suspect my large backlog doesn't help.
For the most part, it pays to wait as most games drop in price very quickly. However, 90% of Nintendo published games tend to hold their values so it does make sense to buy those games when a good deal pops up.

Right there with you. Had a Wii U pre-ordered before launch...have a library of...fifteen games as well, hah! I really, really, really want Bayonetta 2, and to a lesser extent, Hyrule Warriors, but they're priced at $64.95 here in Canada ($72.74 with tax!), and that's just too much money. Especially considering how cheap I've purchased most of my WIi U library for...the games fall so quickly to $19.99 or cheaper. I did buy Mario Kart 8 for $64.95...which I don't regret because it's a great game to have around, but I do regret because it was too much money. I got bitten by the bug on that one.elricorico wrote:So I've been thinking about the Wii U a lot lately. (The same applies to the Vita...I really enjoy it, just like the Wii U, and it seems retailers (especially Future Shop) just can't clear the games out fast enough or cheap enough. The number of Vita titles I've scored there for $4.97 is ridiculous.)
Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
I also really, really enjoy my Wii U and have had it since day one. I love the console, if I'm honest. I have a library of 23/24 games (depends if you count Bayonetta 1 and 2 as separate games) plus a few digital games as well. I don't mind paying full price for new games though.
For all the "problems" the console has, I have to say it's a great little console. Obviously I'm glad I have a PS4 too, but at the same time, I don't sit playing my Wii U and ever think "man, this thing is so inferior to the PS4. What terrible, underpowered hardware". Plus, it's always funny to see all the overhyped "killer apps/huge blockbuster" that aren't coming out to the Wii U (or delayed in Watch Dogs' case) come out and get metacritic scores at a similar level (or even lower) than games like Hyrule Warriors and Wonderful 101. I guess I'm being a bit bitchym as I do really like Destiny, but it is hilarious people were using that game as an example of why the Wii U will suck and then Hyrule Warriors (released same week) possibly gained a stronger response from critics.
Also, I love the Vita too, since that was mentioned.

Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
It's not just a Wii U thing. To me, it just means the current crop of releases aren't that compelling.
For me, buying a game on release either means I intend to play through it in short order, I think there's a chance it'll be harder to get later, or there's a bonus for buying it early. CEs, soundtrack CD with first printing, that kind of thing.
NoA hasn't been doing much to encourage that, other than the Mario Kart free game code deal.
That said, certain Nintendo franchises (at least) do escape the "eh, it'll be $20 soon enough" category. Most of the new/upcoming releases just aren't among them (though I did get Hyrule Warriors, since I had a friend visiting that wanted to play it while he was here).
Again though, it's not just the Wii U - Shadows of Mordor, Alien Isolation, Vanishing of Ethan Carter and plenty of others look good too. I just have a large backlog, and have been playing FFXI instead of other stuff already.

Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
Yeah, I know. The Wii U has a problem with third party support and mature games. It'll sink it later when we get even more 'must have' games. Like I'm said, I'm glad I have a PS4 too. All I'm really saying is, a lot of people are quick to dismiss 'niche' titles like Wonderful 101, Bayonetta 2 (yes, I know lots of "gamers" who dismiss this game, believe it or not), Hyrule Warriors etc and Nintendo games, but I actually really enjoy them and a lot I enjoy more than many of the games
If I think of my favourite games over the last couple of years, I think of Wii U games like ZombiU, Super Mario 3D World, Mario Kart 8.

Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
Got to agree with the overall sentiment that it's not just the Wii U. I've not been willing to pay full price for much at all as of late, and it's a direct function of the backlog, which is massive.
Now, there's less there overall than some systems... but not by a ton, at least compared to the PS4/XB1. There's a lot I'd still like to have for the 360/PS3, but I'm not willing to pay top dollar, or even $20, for a lot of them. Heck, I have some marginal interest in stuff like Dishonored or Red Dead Redemption, but I probably wouldn't play through them, so why drop the cash unless they're so cheap it's a no-brainer? (In other words, when they float through my local Dirt Cheap for like $2-3.)
Just for the Wii U, I'd like to snag Tropical Freeze, but I honestly wasn't very impressed with DKCR, so I'll wait on that. Not super-interested in MK8, either, I've just never been a big Mario Kart guy. Now Smash is getting snagged day one, and that's going to be the first day-one purchase in a while for me.

elricorico: I think I may regret it, I had to get a PS4 to get the games I wanted and I have 10 for the system.
I'm with you entirely on the price versus reward on the system for the games worth getting at this rate. Bayonetta is not the usual type of game I like, so I won't risk $60, if I found it for $30 I would, the same can be said for a Warriors game for me too because they are fun for a few hours then wear thin. Captain Toad looking at where it came from, I can see expanding that but I have to wonder if there is enough there to warrant $60 on that one and I'm doubtful but I know I'll own it. Sonic though that one has been so bad for so long since Heroes mucked it up it's off the radar.
I still want Mario Kart but it's not worth over $30 to me since I detest the online aspect of that game and think it would run thin pretty quick redoing tracks.
I have an interesting thing with me, Nintendo screwed me on a repair and didn't transfer my data off my WiiU they(5.2 firmware upgrade fail) broke. While I could access my games, my saves, and my other data fine the setup(wrench) was busted. They didn't transfer my usable data, so all of my games are now basically brand new again. I really do not wish to play them again so soon yet it means I have a 10 game backlog technically. I'm actually debating if I will play them at all, or maybe even sell the WiiU due to the losses and lack of upcoming games, I just don't know. I've had it back like 2 weeks and not used it. I don't sit and like Wii think it's a trashy gimmick box that's underpowered, it's just a system that is unjustly slandered and ignored by the immature game makers and we as owners get punished for it yet I realize Nintendo is mostly to blame since they could have done it as they wanted to get the games.
