Share some of your best gaming screen shots
Re: Share some of your best gaming screen shots
Hey BMF, do you know of a good place to read the synopsis from the first two games? I'd like to play Chapters with the wife, but I can't really explain it since it's been too long since I played it and therefore wouldn't mind a refresher myself.

I would suggest just reading the summaries in Wikipedia. The Longest Journey one is a bit...detail oriented, but the Dreamfall one does a great job summing it up.Stark wrote:Hey BMF, do you know of a good place to read the synopsis from the first two games? I am really botching some things up in the game, I feel, but I am curious to see where these decisions will take me!

The PC Engine CD Ys games are:dogman91 wrote:May I ask how the Ys remakes are on PC, assuming you've played them? Are those better than the PC Engine titles for someone who's never played a single game in the series?BoneSnapDeez wrote:Ys Origin screenshot
Ys Book I & II
Ys III: Wanders from Ys
Ys IV: The Dawn of Ys (Japan only)
The Ys games on Steam are:
Ys I & II Chronicles+
Ys: The Oath in Felghana
Ys Origin
In my opinion the PCE version of Ys I & II is the "definitive" version. It's phenomenal. The graphics, music, and hand-drawn anime artwork are all fantastic. It's light years ahead of the 8-bit games upon which it was based. If you have a way to play PCE / Turbo games I would certainly recommend starting the series here.
Now the Steam version of Ys I & II is also really excellent. It has better graphics (technically speaking), improved controls, and is just a faster and more streamlined experience overall. The music is vastly inferior to the PCE game however, and of course it doesn't have that nostalgic retro feel.
Now the PCE has the best port of the old Ys III. This game is considered the black sheep of the series (it's sidescrolling) and it is a bit of a downgrade from I & II. Still an awesome game though. The Oath in Felghana (on Steam) is a more recent remake of Ys III done in the more traditional top-down view. If you have to pick one go for Felghana. It's a much better game and is significantly cheaper as well.
As for the other two, Ys IV is a PC Engine CD exclusive and is thus in Japanese. Great game if you're comfortable with the language or don't mind emulating with the translation patch. Ys Origin is also excellent and is exclusive to the PC.
tl;dr
I'd snag this if you can and get to playing!!!

Off-topic; Bone, I don't usually brownnose, nor do I post here that frequently. But damn it, your posts are always a pleasure to read. They're informative, it's apparent that you've actually played the games you're talking about, and you know yr shit. They're one of the reasons I read the forums here as much as I do.

I was gonna say...you wanna talk about Ys, you talk to that man right there. You should honestly keep a running tally of how many times you have beaten each game!kidfresh wrote:Off-topic; Bone, I don't usually brownnose, nor do I post here that frequently. Found a new fave car for me and my crack assault team in SRIV. It was all we have money for in the budget.
Things were a little cramped in the new car, so I made them hang out the "windows". I was forced to shoot one of my ninjas in the dick for farting.
The barkeep's invisible girlfriend. She's holding him up, poor drunkard.
