Together Retro: I Have No Mouth... & The Typing of the Dead
Re: Together Retro: I Have No Mouth... & The Typing of the D
I was going to try really hard to beat I Have No Mouth when I got back into town, except I remembered that Civ: Beyond Earth will be out by then. Maybe I'll try playing it in the evenings these next couple nights.

IHNM progress -- 3 out of the 5 characters cleared.
The writing is pretty top notch so far and the language and slightly mature themes would have gotten this a pretty hard rating back in the day. It came out around the time the ESRB was formed, but PC games were using the RSAC meter back then, I'd say this would be a 2 or 3 on that scale.
To me this is just a nice time capsule into how great DOS gaming was back in the mid 90s.

Are you guys using a walkthrough for IHNM? I started with the black gal and I've not gotten very far ...

I don't think I used a walkthrough until I went for the "best" ending.
There was a lot of reloading, however.

Is it just typical pixel hunting? I'm just not sure what to do next... Is there a particular player character that is an easier one to start with? Maybe I should just go from left to right.Opa Opa wrote:I don't think I used a walkthrough until I went for the "best" ending.

Her scenario is pretty challenging. The scientist dude might be one of the easier ones, iirc.

I played a little last night before I decided to see what happens when I shoot the zeppelin's gas bags (pro-tip; it's filled with hydrogen). I think the big thing is that unlike most adventure games the goals are incredibly ill-defined at the start. When you play King's Quest or Monkey Island you know what you're working towards, so the individual steps along the way have a reasonable level of logic to them. Here you don't have that, just an ill-defined "outwit AM".

I'm not ashamed to say I referred to a walkthrough in IHNM far more than something like Monkey Island. It's pretty confusing at times. Although Stark, I found the chapter you're on to be one of the easier ones.

When did you do her scene though? I'm wondering if you gained some working knowledge of what the game was gonna throw at you prior and that made it easier? I think you went left to right? I'll try that and see what I get.noiseredux wrote:I'm not ashamed to say I referred to a walkthrough in IHNM far more than something like Monkey Island. It's pretty confusing at times.
