Sega CD Model 2 gear grinding

Post by Sarge »

For some reason, I thought I'd found a guide on this before, but I can't now. I've got a Model 2 SCD that went semi-bad on me. It still works, but it makes gear grinding sounds while seeking. I think at the end, which makes me think it's that stop sensor. Anyone got a good shot of what that looks like and how to fix it? I'm not out of luck, since I've got a backup SCD, but I'd sure like to get the other one working again.

What kind of sensor is it? If possible, you could try cleaning it. You should also clean and lube the rails/gears if needed.

I'm not sure, actually. I need to pop it back open and take a gander. I was kinda hoping someone might have some pics of the part in question.

I probably need to clean/lube the rails and gears, too, as you say. The only other repairs I've done on the system are replacing a blown fuse.
