I guess he meant more that it seemed desperate. And imo it was. Desperate and pointless. As alienjesus has said, who's bought a console just for Tomb Raider since the 90s?dsheinem wrote: Oh please. OMG companies trying to make money, get an edge, etc. Sleazeballs!

I don't know that it's desperate, but I can certainly understand why Microsoft would do that. It's basically a shorter-term, single-shot version of buying out a particularly intriguing third-party company.
It's annoying for those of us who aren't going to own an XB1 anytime soon, but Microsoft also has to do something to get traction. Having an exclusive, even a timed one, can help that. It's probably also why they're going to push the heck out of Sunset Overdrive.
As regarding Uncharted 4, I really like those games, but I don't think U3 was quite as good as U2, and the new Tomb Raider actually does a pretty good job of staying near that quality bar, so yeah, it makes even more sense if it's MS' temporary answer to U4.
But the TR I'm looking forward to even more is Temple of Osiris. I absolutely loved Guardian of Light.

My thoughts exactly.
Also, what the hell is a "timed exclusive"?

Yes, very much so. It's one of my favorite series and I absolutely loved the latest entry.Opa Opa wrote:People care about Tomb Raider?
Assuming this isn't snark, it's marketing bs basically. It just means that Microsoft and Square Enix have come to an agreement that the Xbox One version of the game will be the only version for some set period.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Also, what the hell is a "timed exclusive"?

No snark, Stark.
I rarely play current gen games and when I do it's like 2 years after the release date. So are you saying the PS4 will also get Tomb Raider... eventually?

Yes and sometimes the language in the agreement says that "this version of the game" won't come out for any system, so they get around that by making the PS4 version GotY version with DLC.BoneSnapDeez wrote:No snark, Stark.

What's most annoying is when a timed exclusive isn't upfront about the timed nature. I had snagged Star Ocean: The Last Hope for my 360 and beat it, then a few months later the PS3 port was released and localized and was the superior version; no disc swapping (which could happen a lot late game due to how things were set up) and the option for JP voices (a godsend because US VAs can't do the emotionless girl in any way tolerable to the ear).
