Repairing Sega Saturn Action Replay fuse?

Post by Ghudda »

So, long story short (that pun), one of the surface mounted fuses basically burned itself off of the board. I purchased a new one a long time ago but would like to repair the cart if at all possible. As you can see in the photo, the pads also came off in the process and the fuse located next to it (D2) also looks like it has blown. What's going to be the simplest way for me to repair this? I realize it's not the most wise options, but could I scratch it down the pads to copper and solder bridge the two pads?

Thanks, team!

That wasn't a fuse, it was a diode. Thus the D, After you're sure you have the right replacement, yes you could scraps off some varnish so you can get to the trace next to it to solder, else you can follow the trace (those circles generally go through to the other side) and then solder a jumper sire to the bare spot at the other end where the next component is.

Ah thanks for clearing that up. Alright I'll look a bit more further into it.

You could jump the pins (not recommended, but will work), or you could pickup a cheap 1N4001 diode for a few cents at a electronics store/Radioshack.

Best of luck!

As someone who is completely unfamiliar with diodes and the board layout, which exact traces should I be following for those diodes? Again, forgive me for my lack of knowledge of circuitry. The repair part I can do, but reading the trace layout is a bit confusing to me.

See that bottom pad where the diode went to?.and how's its connected to that large plane? You could scratch some of the green layer mask off and solder directly to that.

You just follow the lines from where the diode blew up until you reach another suitable bare bit you can solder to. If the line ends in a circle but the green lacquer is covering so you can't solder there, that should be a hole that connects to the other side of the board that you can keep following.

Also! Please when your soldering a diode, they do have polarity and must be hooked up correctly for them to work at all. Also, hi Ziggy :)
