Re: How Is Your SNES Gaming Going?
Seems like an import article might be on the short side. Useful for people that don't know already, but it amounts to "Break out the tabs or use a Game Genie for games without the extra pins If you're in the US, nearly SOL if you're PAL and avoid RPGs and text heavy games if you don't know Japanese."

Maybe an overview of good import-friendly games along with it, like Endless Duel. Obviously you don't want to import Bahamut Lagoon, but are there strategy titles that are import friendly if you have a menu translation? Things like that.

Well for text heavy imports if you don't know japanese it's nice having the r5(no matter the bad stuff people will say about it). If you want to have a physical copy and play it too that patch feature is a freaking God send...(though I'll admit I've been focusing on my non imports for awhile

The SNES hits the sweet spot for me on 2D graphics. I love my Saturn, but sometimes there can be too much sprites.

Speaking of SNES and October, this is how every Saturday in October should be. A tasty beer and the best Castlevania game.

It's my favorite glass to drink beer out of.
I actually didn't have Arrogant Bastard in that glass when I took this photo. It was Hop Head Red from Green Flash. Quite good though. First time I had it in a couple of years, when the recipe was a bit more tame (6.4% ABV then versus 8.1% ABV now). Had a couple of those tonight, which was great, but it also probably explains why I sucked more than usual at SCIV when I played it earlier. Was hoping to beat it in one sitting, but somehow stage 8 kept kicking my ass. Will try to finish it tomorrow.

Re: How Is Your SNES Gaming Going?
Finally got MK2 and got to test my controllers. 3 of them work pretty well. But I have to push the right shoulder buttons slightly harder on 2 of them.
The other 2 have completely broken shoulder buttons.
Anyway, I was a little disappointed on this MK2 port.

Re: How Is Your SNES Gaming Going?
Disappointed how? (I'm not upset, just curious).
I know the SNES port is a little blurry/grainy compared to the Saturn, and the Saturn version has the arcade size sprites. When you look at the two, the Saturn version looks better, but it doesn't play better. I can deal with loading times, if it would just load at the start of a match, but there's slight hiccups while playing that are just a no-go for me. Shang Tsung is broken. There's missing voices, which is just beyond me why because this was on CD and not a cartridge. There's background sound effects on stages that the SNES port didn't have, but it's missing Shoa Kahn saying the characters' names, and other voices are hit and miss from what I remember.

It certainly looks nice, that's for sure, but given the choice between the Saturn and SNES port, hands down I'd go with the SNES port (although like I said, best home version to date is the PSN release). The SNES port is slowed down slightly, compared to the original arcade version. The sprites are smaller, and it's a little grainy/blurry looking. But as a result, it plays smoothly. All the voices and whatnot are there. There's no loading times, Shang Tsung can morph into anyone without a hiccup. And as I said before, the SNES controller is made for MK. Genesis/Saturn is Street Fighter.

No doubt the best cartridge port of MKII is the 32X version.
