You may want to re-read his post...
Yes I was talking about republicans since that's the subject the article was about.
I'm pretty sure many democrats insist that the increase in education/health spending paid dividends, even though if the same money was spent better on the same things it would provide better services (case in point: education grants going to sports facilities and many leftists thinking that better pay for teacher equals better education....though I honestly have no idea how much they are paid in the US, at least in Greece they are paid way too much money for the hours they put in....specially pre-crisis)

I honestly read his post 3 times and didn't see that once. I still stand by my assumption that the majority of Americans would think that the unemployment numbers are higher than they are.
It seems so odd to me that there are so many issues with immigration in the EU, and how marriage plays into that. I've read some other things about it, other than this thread, and it is mind boggling to me. I've always heard how bad the US is about immigration policy, but in some ways it seems like the EU is worse.

It's definitely worse. I think in most European countries you don't even get citizenship automatically when you are born in the country. At least here you have to wait till you are 18 and you must have spent like 12/18 years of your life here and I don't remember how many years of school you must have attended. I need to ask my Albanian friends about the details.

What you probably hear is more partisan type stuff that the one side uses to paint the others as being inept. For example, those saying Obama is causing unemployment or some such thing.
I stand corrected.
I just mean both sides do the blame game as you I am sure are well aware. But typically the more liberal base was calling out the economic state to promote social funding such as unemployment and the like.
An interesting statistic to collect (and I know it'd be incredibly hard to do so) would be the ratio of unemployed people vs. open positions companies are actively seeking for (help wanted sign, postings on the company careers board on their website, etc). I think it would be a very eye-opening number. Then you can further break it down by state, major metropolitan area, and then into level of education attained vs. required.
