Hackintosh doesn't really resolve anything other than price.
You still have to stick to compatible hardware and you have the headache of getting it to work.
I like Windows just fine.

For me windows has the software, the customization, the price, and the compatability.
For some fields I'm sure there's perfectly good reasons why macs would be preferable, but I can say for sure that it's not art/design like they like to claim.

To a man who only has a hammer, every problem looks like a nail. When you learn a new tool, it opens your mind to new ways of solving problems. So while you can't imagine what you would use a powerful command line for now, once you learn the command line you see opportunities to use it everywhere.

My GF is a graphical designer who works on OS X all day. She's frequently coming home and telling me how she had to do such-and-such inane repetetive task. To which I always reply "Too bad you don't know UNIX, you could have done that with a couple lines in a shell script." If you ever have to manage or manipulate large numbers of files, or if you ever have to sift through large amounts of data, you can benefit from a solid understanding of UNIX tools.

I could really care less who's behind it. I've never been much of a Microsoft fan at all. I've been more of an "Apple fan" than a "Microsoft fan". I own and read multiple books about Apple, but very little on Microsoft.
But I've never owned an Apple computer. I find the company interesting, but that's about it.

I like my Macbook Pro. I like the way OS X works. I work in pro audio. You can't get Logic for Windows. Macs have better support for practically any audio equipment I care to plug into it. Windows needs drivers. For everything.

I like my PC. It has Windows. I like to game on my PC. It is good.
My PC also has Linux (ubuntu) I like to tinker with it. It is good.

Too bad she doesn't know OS X more like. Automator will automate anything with a GUI. For everything else there's terminal and shell scripts...

Yeah me neither. I just found it funny that someone suggested just because you use Mac you eat up everything Steve Jobs puts out, and was joking back the same way. It's pretty ridiculous, because designers you never hear of are usually the real architects of the software and hardware innovations. The CEO's and what not just take the credit and are just "idea" people....or they just reverse engineer other products to make a "new" improved version of their own.

At work my developer desktop is a Linux machine, so I'm on it 8 hours a day. I'm also provided with a Windows laptop which is used for Outlook and my web browser. So I am pretty familiar with the command line and all the magical things it can do. However, at home my computer is only used for a few things:

Gaming
Music
Web/Email
Videos
IM

Which means that I rarely find myself in a position where I would want the powerful command line of Linux over what I already have. I've written a few perl scripts for mass cleanup of filenames from my torrents and I'm running a webserver off of an AMP stack so I can stream my music at work, and that's about as technical as I've ever needed to get to do everything I want to.

I don't hate Apple but I don't understand why so many people are buying Mac laptops in recent years. Every time I see a Mac demo I play with the machine and I'm always impressed with how slick and fancy the machine and OS are. Then I see the price tag and say never mind. For me it's been like that since the colorful mac with everything built into the monitor came out.

I like Linux and Windows depending on what I'm doing. I use windows at work and Linux at home. After spending my day fixing computers I don't want to screw around fixing a computer at home so I have Ubuntu on my laptop. It fires up every time I need to use it and I never have to scan anything, clean anything or re-purchase subscriptions to anything.
