Re: What are you playing?

After getting a dude killed in Fire Emblem twice in a row I decided to play some other games. I spent some time with Another World (Out of this World) and...well, while I know the game is very important from a historical point of view, I don't think it's very good.

Here's the thing: I get killed far less often while playing Contra Hard Corps or Ghouls'n Ghosts than I do while playing Another World. And a significant part of it I blame in either trial and error gameplay or stiff, Price of Persia-like controls.

I think the game works only if you are winning. The moment you die and have to start over, a huge part of the appeal of the game and the otherness of the scenario is lost because you have already seen it. The game is not interesting enough mechanically to make that repetition fun and that kind of sucks.

Another World is an action puzzle game disguised as an action platformer. It's more about sequences than reflexes. Once you know everything you're supposed to do, you can beat the game extremely easily. It's one of my favorite games, but I can understand how the gameplay could be seen as tedious these days. Chahi took "trial and error" too far with Heart Of Darkness, even I couldn't get into that one.

I actually beat Heart of Darkness not terribly long ago! And found a legit copy not too long after that. :P

Playing borderlands 2 on vita, and despite accidently chucking grenades due to the darn touch screens..its pretty fun!

Nice, I contemplated picking up the Borderlands/Vita bundle but heard some negative things about the vita port so I ended up with the Assassins Creed white bundle. Good to hear that it's actually enjoyable. Borderlands seems like it would make for a great experience on the platform.

I played an hour or so of The Bards Tale for oXbox last night. I've been in a real dungeon crawler mood over the past few weeks and it was a title I completely passed over during that generation. To my suprise, it's actually pretty good. The humor is definitely of quality and very entertaining. I also put a few hours into Legend of Grimrock, which carries a play style that i've never experienced. Really enjoy the atmosphere and tight corridors, and enjoy the spell combat system, adding a nice bit of depth to the game. I'm having an extremely difficult time sticking to one game at a time, though, which i'd like to change.

 Man, that was elusive. I had no idea there was a sequel in the works. Though I had only recently started playing the first one. Looks like it's everything the first one was, but better. Looking at the screenshots, I was shocked to see some outdoor environments (of which look fucking awesome). Thanks for sharing that, I'll definitely grab it in the future.

Picked up Star Fox Command for the DS this week. I just popped it in the other day and I'm already pretty sure this is my least favourite DS game I own. I HATE the controls and the strategy parts seem really thin. :?

Glad I only paid 3 bucks for this.
