Also, are they discussing sniper rifles or combat rifles?

Also, having looked them over, Wilhelm sounds like he would be my choice. And Claptrap sounds like a character I want to avoid playing as entirely.

I survived almost entirely on SMGs and shotguns. The Siren becomes such a badass in later levels...in Borderlands 1, I solo'd every last bit of the game and DLC with her, although I needed some rocket launchers and pistols in the arena DLC. 8) Very limited experience with other weapon types, so this is a good opportunity to be forced to change it up.

aka I like to run 'n gun and get close... :)

@Ack, Claptrap is the traditional RNG (really-not-good) character. I can picture parties of 4 claptraps already, and that's going to be painful.

You won't need to worry with combat rifles then, depending on the type. They are a versatile lot that can combine aspects of other weapon classes. In Borderlands they tended to lean between a low-range sniper rifle with a larger magazine and faster rate of fire and a more long-range SMG that became nightmarish with the right skills(5 points in Metal Storm and 150 rounds in a magazine, you were literally hosing things down with bullets. It sounds like a buzzsaw starting up).

Borderlands 2 further emphasized this versatility with some of the multi-shot mini-gun combat rifle options, so you would have something similar to a shotgun that was more accurate at longer ranges. And then there were the grenade launcher types, which were nasty but stupidly expensive. I tend to favor the automatic models over the "fire as fast as you can tap the button" stuff, but the amount of variance you can find in combat rifle selection is actually quite impressive. And combat rifles tend to be a lot more accurate than SMGs, so you can unload on critical hits at farther ranges. I do prefer to keep a shotgun handy for close encounters, but combat rifles are my typical bread and butter.

Oh that sounds exciting! Sounds like the play style I've become accustomed to will suit that weapon set very, very well. Although with the low gravity, who knows...that's really going to change up how to approach a lot of different situations. I've seen videos of people engaging in air combat, where they freeze their opponent into a block of ice mid-jump. Heh, heh, heh.

So stupidly excited for this game. *bounce, bounce*

I got really good with sniper rifles and the only one I would use effectively are Jakobs rifles because of massive damage without an element as the trade off.

I also liked E-Tech guns. I remember the "Plasma Caster" variant of the SMGs would tear everything up!

Eh, went ahead and pre-ordered it plus the DLC. Considering I've got about 575 hours in the first two and I'm still working through the DLC for #2, I'll get my money's worth. Gonna finish 2 stuff first though.

Played an hour or so last night, expect some long sessions with it in the next day or so. Initial impressions are quite positive. I went with Athena for my first build.

Anyone want to play? I just got the game. Still haven't decided who I want to play as, probably Wilhielm as he seems the most interesting. How does loot work in groups? Is it still shared loot? My biggest problem with grouping up in Borderlands 2 was that people would just loot every weapon even if they aren't going to use it.

XBLA name is Ninjainspandex of course

Make sure to disable ingame tips in the game options, they are really frigging obnoxious.
