Who hates Apple?
Re: Who hates Apple?
I don't have any intrinsinc issues with Macs or the OS. I've tried it and found that it's not for me. Similarly, Linux is never going on my home machines as I have no real use for its capabilities. Windows is good enough for me.
That said, as mentioned before, I cannot stand the Cult of Jobs. I think it was so telling how muted the response was at the latest Macworld as compared to previous years, since Jobs wasn't there.

It also accounted for the personal computer we know and love today. Thank you woz!Hatta wrote:

In all fairness, I hate apple, I hate steve jobs, and I hate OSX. That's me though. I can see why a more casusal audiance would like the glossy interface and the simplistic design. However, I like to game and I hate being told bullshit. Macs aren't impervious to viruses, crash just as much as a pc and don't in any way, have a software advantage over PC. Sure, I-life is cool because you get it out of the box but that doesn't mean the pc doesn't have alternatives that you can get for free. That and the fact that when I'm told that I'm stupid for not getting a macbook by somebody who can't navigate the god damned internet without downloading fun cursors are my major gripes with the company
Steve Jobs is also a royal asshat who halfassed his way out of atari and into a ceo gig at apple. Woz was always the smarter man, and screw Jobs for taking advantage of him back at Atari.
thats my two cents.
Don't that just look oh so tasty?

Re: Who hates Apple?
Alright. Apple does not make their own products obsolete every year. They do yearly updates, but you're not going to be hurting if you have an older computer. I have a year and a half old mac mini running an outdated version of the OS and I don't feel gimped in any way. What party are we left out of? It takes may years before software starts coming out that one can't run on an older mac. I know people using 6 to 7 year old mac books as their primary computer and not having any problems. Part of what you pay for in a mac is high quality parts (compare Xbox 360 and PS3 to get an idea). That is why they don't break or demand replacement in two year's time.
Also, most people do not use or purchase Apple programs. There aren't even very many! I get the feeling most people don't really know what they're talking about in regards to this. The only ones I use are the free iTunes, iPhoto, iCal, and Dictionary apps that came preinstalled on my computer. Most people into video or sound editing would rather use programs like Final Cut Pro than pay for the newest version of iMovie. And while most of the creativity apps do have PC counterparts (Adobe Creative Suite, ect), they generally run smoother on macs and any professional work environment would have you using one to do such things. This is something I know from experience.
While it's true that the gaming experience on a mac is lackluster, some of us don't give a crap (myself included). Why would I pay good money to pay for a gaming machine when a year from now I would either have to upgrade it, or spend a heartbreaking hour with each new game tweaking and lowering the graphics settings to find just how crappy I have to make a beautiful game look before I can play it? Using boot camp one could install Windows on your mac and game to your heart's content. But also, with the rise of cider ports, one can find many Windows exclusive games tweaked for mac play (HL2 EP 2, Portal, GTA, ect) on various torrent sites.
I can't really say I know anyone who just gobbles up anything that falls out of Steve Job's pants. How many people liked the 3rd generation iPod Nano? Has everyone upgraded from Tiger to Leopard? Does anyone actually have iWork instead of Mircosoft Office?
Again, people may call the mac OS simplistic. But it is extremely deep and intuitive if one takes the time to dive into it. Many also appreciate the minimal system maintenance a mac requires. In honesty near everyone has to use a computer nowadays, but few are technically capable of keeping their PCs in working order. I know this because I'm the guy friends and family call when crap hits the fan and their PC starts acting up. I'm fine never having to worry about viruses and knowing that my comp won't start running slower and slower as the years go on. My bottom level, lowest end mac takes 20 seconds to boot, and will take that same 20 seconds 3 years from now. I'm fine with that myself^^.

we are talking the computers only at this point, right? Because the ipod is a completely different story.equalsign wrote: Part of what you pay for in a mac is high quality parts (compare Xbox 360 and PS3 to get an idea). That is why they don't break or demand replacement in two year's time.

I've had a mac for a year and a half and I've never had a virus or experienced a crash (even if I leave it running for a month straight). Also, with the way files on a mac are setup, if I did somehow get a virus it could only affect an individual program and not the whole system.AwesomeMonstar wrote:

They do have a software advantage in some aspects over a PC, just as the PC does over macs in some aspects. If that were not the case, PROFESSIONAL work environments (especially places that demand editing skills) would not use them. They are pricey. When I learned print publishing, it was on a mac. People who get into professional video editing are taught how to do so on a mac. Get over it. The Windows based programs for such things (ESPECIALLY the free ones) are not as good. Period. Get some real world experience in such fields before you start making claims.
And that's well and good that some mactard thought you were stupid for not buying a mac book, but we really don't care. I've been insulted for owning a mac by people who literally cannot figure out how to open a rar file. Stupid people are everywhere. Idiocy does not play favorites. Move on.
PS- Sorry if I sound rude. It's one of those days -_-.

I don't hate Apple (I use a Mac for my job), but I sure hate Apple fanatics. Must you really buy the new iPod every year?
I also hate the Apple commercials. Fat dude with glasses is a "PC". Yeah. Brilliant.

Same to you buddy, I'm applying to chapman as we speak, probably the most advanced film school in the country at the time. (yes, usc is building a new facility, but that isn't done yet, and in terms of technology, Chapman can't be beat) and they run on a windows environment. Strictly. Chapman prides itself on it's film school so I think they have pretty good idea of what they're doing. I've worked with local directors and pbs who ran on mac and he was pulling his fucking hair out by the end of the day because of it. I don't make claims out of my ass.equalsign wrote: They do have a software advantage in some aspects over a PC, just as the PC does over macs in some aspects. Furthermore, I had a mac book for the entirety of my stay at my Katrina high school and that thing crashed and froze just as much as my t42. Mind you this was years ago but it still was during the days where everybody spread the bullshit that mac's are impervious. I've fixed peoples macs, I've had one for myself, I've seen them used in the professional field. They are just a fallible as a windows based pc.

Re: Who hates Apple?
ohh come on people!!!! You mean to tell me you fellow mac lovers don't pray to your golden Steve Jobs idol during the daily Steve Jobs Worship Hour pod cast?
but seriously....i love my mac. I was a long time pc user but switched over a few years back because of the ease and stability of running pro audio software. In fact macs come with Garage Band and other creative applications and aren't filled with advertisements when you buy them. They expect you to do something creative, I like that. They run smoothly and efficiently and mine has only crashed once in 3 years. plus if you want windows or Linux, partition the hard drive and load it with boot camp. But there are alot of emulators that run perfectly on macs and MAME just looks awesome on my iMacs display. Sure PC's are good to, but I find nearly everything easier to do on a Mac....except burning cd-rw's.....what a pain.

Re: Who hates Apple?
I considered getting a Mac a number of times, but
a) I like to do cheap, custom hardware
b) I'm used to Windows and XP works perfectly fine for me
c) I could never get an Apple laptop as I need a Thinkpad-style pointing device. Can't stand touchpads and I don't want to use a mouse
d) When it comes to the emulation and burning software I need/want, Windows is my only option
I think it's kinda lame to bicker back and forth about an OS. OSX/Windows/Linux are each good at different things and different people like them for different reasons. Also, with the Internet becoming such a major part of our interfacing with content and data, the OS is becoming less and less important.
