A common lament among people is the starving people of the world, yet when we use a pratical means of helping them, they get angry.
I'll let you in on a little secret that most people aren't willing to admit to. You know all the people who claim to care about the less fortunate in the world? Most of them could really give a rat's ass when it comes down to it. It's a combination of the notion being a cool thing to say and a little guilt. However, if any of them are inconvenienced in any way their true feelings come out.

Not to say that this isn't expected. It's very basic psychology at work, us before them.

There's an idea floating around that Americans are essentially killing a human being somewhere in the world when flipping a light switch- the idea being that we use too many resources for too few people. The guy who thought this golden theory up lives in poverty, walks everywhere, and teaches Ethics or something at a liberal university.

The flaws are pretty evident- it's damn ridiculous to say that we are killing by neglect when we use resources of our own, and even if we were SO WHAT?! it's not like if everybody stopped using electricity here the 3rd world countries would magically be able to sustain themselves peacefully...
