There were times when his physical comedy was funny, but other times he would just walk in and the laughter and applause was endless, mostly in later seasons.stickem wrote:I loved Seinfeld as well and thought kramer entering a door was hilarious. So what have you guys been watching lately?

Ugh, Stuart was basically everything that was wrong with MadTV in a single sketch.Jrecee wrote:I like Seinfeld, but I never found Kramer entering a door to be funny. It's that typical hype around a character that has nothing to do with whether they're funny or not that develops on many sitcoms. The characters get reduced down to a quirk or catchphrase, and then the writers constantly fall back on it. I remember Mad TV had a character called Stuart who I despised. He'd show up on screen and people would applaud for 2 minutes straight. Then he'd say "I don't wanna say!" and the audience would laugh for 2 minutes straight whie the actors struggled to maintain a rediculously long comedic beat.

The "Big Pants" sketch from MADTV is still hilarious to me.

Makes for a cheap and recognizable Halloween costume though.MrPopo wrote: Ugh, Stuart was basically everything that was wrong with MadTV in a single sketch.
I put Key and Peele at Madtv levels of funny.
SNL! Last night was a big step up after the pretty terrible season opener. Chris Pratt was okay on the opener, but you could smell the cast's nervousness. Timing was off, and the skits may have had on read through with zero edits. Seemed very amateurish.
But again, last night's episode made sizable improvements. Hader got a bit too "Hadery" as the show progressed, however all in all it was a good show.

Damn. And Roseanne started in the 80's too.dsheinem wrote: 88-94, not a sitcom
News Radio was pretty good, but far from great. Eh, I like multiple viewings of the few short seasons. Hartman was great.

You don't watch Louie? If not, then you should...dsheinem wrote:I can count the number of sitcoms I've watched with regularity since the 90s on one hand. I can only remember, in fact, actively watching three ...
The Office
Curb Your Enthusiasm
Arrested Development
...and I started watching Mike Judge's Silicon Valley last year, which is pretty good.
Otherwise, TV sucks at comedy. So does much of film for the past decade or so, too.
