Capcom Won't Make a Sequel For Less than 2M Sales
Re: Capcom Won't Make a Sequel For Less than 2M Sales
I can't see Capcom making anything with 2M sales these days.

Well they have to polish/redoo a lot of textures if you want a decent looking game in 720p/1080p, but thats no way near enough work to call it a remake.Fragems wrote: I consider it kind of a remake since they are adding the option for over the shoulder camera and RE4 controls. Plus they are redoing a lot of the assets.
When they said they are including a over the shoulder camera?
As fas as i know, they are including the option to use the tank controls or a regular control scheme (up is up, etc).

Look how often studios collapse in the US. A company will trudge along for several years making games on contract and then finally have a hit. And then they get bought, make another game, and are dissolved by the new owner. The Capcom has made it this long is a real miracle of sorts.
That said, I think Capcom doesn't know how to interact with the US market at all any longer. They are either going to shrink and focus on Japan, or have to adapt and deal with change.

That sounds about right, they just don't know how to handle the outside markets, other than a franchise or two, same with Konami. They're blind to what needs to be done and just rides on the glory of a franchise or two to keep in good enough standing. Yet, I'm sure some of you saw that Capcom fairly recently made it public they're open to being bought out when they were not for so long before. I remember so many people saying NIntendo should pick them up and use all those franchises they have abused, disused, and overused and make bank off it by pulling the strings. Yet Nintendo is equally dumb in such things so that won't happen even if it would help them both.

I honestly don't see where you're coming from. If anything Nintendo has the best software strategy in the gaming industry, it's its engineering department that's lacking.Tanooki wrote:Yet Nintendo is equally dumb in such things so that won't happen even if it would help them both.

Ehh they have their moments. Before the VC was even a concept people had been complaining for years for a classic Nintendo (black box) compilation disc or game pak from them for the GBA or GC due to the popularity of Namco Museum and such knockoffs being so high in that period. Instead of that you get 1 GBA game per pak and a really random assortment at that. THey've not released certain games even handed to them in english due to NOE and skipped those too. Their software side isn't untouchable from ignorant moves.
Re: Capcom Won't Make a Sequel For Less than 2M Sales
If Capcom goes out of business at least they'd sell off their IP's to companies who'd (maybe) make something of it. Something I wish would happen to Rare.
So I applaud their 2M sales mumbo jumbo jargon.

Tanooki wrote:I kind of wonder if this is in fact real, if this impacts their willingness of digital rental download games since they don't have the physical costs behind those, or if they do it but at much lower dollar/total sold value. They did give out 2 Bionic Commando digital remakes, then Strider most recently too.
It does make a total sense of why they screwed so many people with that MM Legend 3 project on the 3DS despite engaging people, having them help make robots and more to pull the rug out, and we see what that caused internally and externally. Capcom is so afraid of this era, and I think it's because they have no idea how to run a proper business with it like they did in the 2D era on console and arcade where they were just rocking it. Them and Konami have been suffering and I think neither were or are well equipped to deal with the transition as they've never done as well as I think they should have. They both ride one or two franchises like a whore to the end and hope it gets all the dough they need which is idiotic.
This also frames well with those numbnuts at Square, they're potentially worse. They sell 4M copies of Tomb Raider and it's not a financial success?!?! How many years and restarts on the 'crystal engine' cosing them how many million in losses? Bad business all around.
Tomb Raider sold a lot, it just didn't meet Square's unrealistic expectations. Tomb Raider made a profit less than a year after it came out, and has now reestablished the brand for a sequel. Capcom is in way worse shape, Capcom has no relevant titles other than re-releasing Street Fighter a million times. There's Monster Hunter, but it is still largely a domesticated title.
Re: Capcom Won't Make a Sequel For Less than 2M Sales
Oh I know it made them a lot of money. I'm just criticizing the gall they had to pop up with a story bitching that like 4M units sold wasn't good enough to meet profit expectations. It's like where did you go wrong in your general logic skills to ever factor in a game selling 4M units as a failure of sorts. Yes I know there's a sequel, they re-evaluated it especially after doing the PS4 level remaster definitive one with the added sales, but it was just borderline rude putting a story out like that. There are people who would be happy if they sold a 10th of that and would make profit on it, but to bitch about millions sold and not being good enough just seems ungrateful and also shows what levels of poor internal planning and budgeting they have.
