Yeah 2.0b6 is the last with the fast loading of carts. 2.0 full and 2.1 disabled it because of stupid Sega Genesis cheat options acting screwy with it.
The new system they sent me is a defective piece of shit too. Not only does it still not detect my SMB2 cart, it's also wrongly assembled as there's a rainbow of wires that belongs UNDER the board over it instead and overlapping the famicom cartridge port. Now I'm up to 3 so supposedly now I've earned a NEW system, not a refurb and I'm not sure which as I got conflicted emails but either they mail it first and I return with a sticker in that box or I use the weird email 3 hours later and print another freebie sticker and go back to UPS again. I have no idea what's up with that and it's Friday so they won't see that mail until Monday.
Geez, it's weird that you keep having this kind of luck. Hope you get a decent replacement soon...
On another subject, has anyone thought of trying a gba e-reader in it? I don't know why but I just now remembered the device and it would be interesting to use the japanese version at least in it if I got one so as to use the japanese cards(though it wouldn't help much since it'd still need support for gc to still be worthwhile to have in r5 but still for things that don't require gc it would be nice)

Dang Tanooki, the guy I followed back when you were on NA and DP feeding us updates on firmware and news from the Retron Tech, eagerly anticipating the Retron 5 as much as me, getting screwed over by Hyperkin every which way you can.
I'm guessing your feeling of the company has soured a bit. Heck it would for me too.

Oh yeah I'm really thrilled. The one that bothered me the most was the 2nd system given the case was beat up and the black area quite scratched to then boot to a system failure error. They heavily apologized on the phone for that saying something like that should never have been put in a box. The third one just confused me more than anything because of the manufacturing error, and the fact SMB2 still mystery fails. I'm really wondering if some fatal bug creeped into v1.6->2.0 firmware that nukes the stupid emulators ability to detect the game. Whenever I receive another unit, supposedly NEW this time, I'll straight flash it to 2.1 as I'd rather have SMB2 working than speedy loading.
One thing I did find odd on the one here, I can't figure out how to get those IPS patches to work. I downloaded a few for Famicom, put them on the SD card, but saw no way to move them to the system anywhere, nor did placing the game in the system just auto-do it.

As far as I can tell you have to store the patches on the SD card, not on the system's memory. I keep mine inserted and have all my saves there too for easy backup, so this wasn't an issue for me. It also doesn't auto-select them, you have to choose them in the menu, but they can be located anywhere on the SD card. Once you choose a patch, it is loaded every time you use the cart unless you disable it.

Thought as much(since only one website said it would but only with games that have already been scanned to the ereader's memory...didn't even know the thing had memory). Just thought it would be great to use cards we never did really get in the US if I ever did get my hands on some(and the ereader for said region). Plus I wanted to mess with a ereader anyways since I have one gc game that would be nice to try and get some cards to play it's like it's '03(or whenever I would've played it considering if I did persuade my parents to really get me one of those machines...)
