I know I don't *need* to. Haha. I think the problem is I don't see it as throwing my $ either way. If I buy sooner, I'll get free Borderlands. If I buy later I'll get the newer card. It's more a matter that I think both options are "good deals" and having trouble deciding which way to go.

You wont play Borderlands until around Christmas. Does that help?

I'll put it in the B/S/T in a week, maybe. But anyone interested in a very nice Filco keyboard? It's got the 'ninja' keycaps (printed on front instead of top of keys) and Cherry MX Black switches. Also includes a leather wrist rest and dampeners already installed.

Ordered these:
http://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/ind ... tail&p=549 (Cherry MX Red)

http://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/ind ... tail&p=546 (Cherry MX Black)

Also ordered a matching wrist rest. I expect to keep both keyboard. Depending on my mood each day I may swap.
My B/S/T thread! :)

noiseredux, In benchmarks the 970 is out performing the Titan in most cases and the 780 in some cases. I would say based on everything I've seen it greatly outperforms the 770.

My suggestion would be goto newegg, mark the card you want for notification. You'll get an email when its back in stock, which should be soon. EVGA has said they're trying to get more out. That probably means November.

A bunch of stuff that basically says getting a 770 over a 970 would be shooting yourself in the foot. But you can read it if you want :D
If you were contemplating a 780 ... they spec-wise it'd be like, maybe.
But, the 970 compared to the 770, no way. It's also important to note that by the time the 970 is 6 months old, the 770 will be a 2 year old card, almost.

You can look at this benchmark for instance: http://www.techspot.com/review/885-nvid ... page5.html

You'll see that, the games aren't even new ones, and the 770 at higher resolutions isn't even making 30fps solidly. Where as the 970 is 10-20 fps higher almost every time.

Getting a better card at the same price point is going to help you more in the long run.
If the difference in performance stays linear (which it wont), how is that 770 going to perform when the 970 is having trouble staying at 35fps? Settings would have to be (and already do have to be) drastically reduced.

The 770 already struggles at stuff like Last Light, how is it going to perform with Arkham Knight?

If you notice, also, for all the games benchmarked that are a year old or older, the benches are spread out across multiple cards, but when it comes to stuff actually released this year, suddenly the GTX 900 cards are performing better than everything else shown. As more games come out, since these cards are geared towards them (or the games are geared towards these cards) that gap will get larger.
Just keep your budgets separate, it makes decisions easier.

you guys are right. If I'm aiming for an upgrade, it doesn't make sense to go with the lesser upgrade. Thanks. It looks like there are some eBay sellers with some 970's in stock, so I may go that route. Not sure. I usually get my PC stuff thru New Egg...

Yeah, I skimmed around a bit and it does looks like the EVGA SSC 970's are on back order no matter where you look but I imagine stock will replenish real soon. It's crazy how much demand there can be for GPU's sometimes. Is the only difference between the various EVGA 970 cards just the cooling upgrade between cards (extra fans, etc.)? Or do some of them run at actually higher clock speeds? When you do get it, that card's going to be amazing.

I'm still waiting for my Gigabye GTX 970 Gaming Windforce card show up. :P The rest of my PC parts have already arrived and are assembled. Loads fast as crap with this solid state drive. The only thing is that the integrated graphics of the Intel CPU (i5 4690k) has terrible, terrible screen-tearing. Too much for actually playing anything in the meantime.

New Egg suddenly got a "handful" of 970's in stock today. The Gigabyte "Gaming" one actually sold out while I was looking at the page haha. There's also the vanilla Gigabyte and a Zotac available now. I don't know anything about Zotac.
