The arcade original Ghosts N Goblins is way easier than the NES port, I found out recently.

Isn't the Genesis port suppised to be the easiest overall?

Isn't that Ghouls 'n Ghosts? Different game as far as I know.

I still have yet to beat Ghosts 'n Goblins. I suspect something like the Commodore 64 version may be the "easiest", as the home computer ports tend to truncate the original arcade games significantly.

BSD is right, Ghouls N Ghosts (the sequel) appeared on the Genesis. I'm talking the original Ghosts N Goblins, the one that had the NES port by Micronics, famous for their subpar quality and high difficulty. I can at least get to the cave stage (3) on 1 credit in MAME. NES port? Not so much. I think it's the fact that the large building in stage 2-2 with the charging bald headed monsters that take multiple hits aren't nearly as aggressive (or annoying) as they are on the NES.

Micronics murdered many a game. God, the sounds on 1942 NES...

The arcade version of GnG uses checkpoints like the NES port, right? I'm sure I have it one of these Capcom compilations.

I think I've said this before but every once in a while I get the compulsion to collect a bunch of physical games again. I was looking at a bunch of PS1 and PSP discs today for instance. Luckily I've gotten pretty good at handcuffing myself to the bed frame when this happens so I don't do something stupid.

"But I need to buy Ape Escape"

No you don't brain. Shut up and sit down.

That said. It'd be really nice if the Vita PSOne and PSP Classics shops had a better selection. Especially since a lot of the games I want to buy are available on PS3 or PSP systems. :?

I haven't played that port extensively but I think at least the beginning (first four stages?) is easier, if just because they didn't bother to give Red Arremer his famous anti-spam swipe.

It seems like the AI wasn't given much of a thought in the port and is much simpler so perhaps that's why you find it more aggressive, it's too dumb to do anything else.

And yes, Ghouls'n Ghosts is significantly easier than the original though most of it comes from better design. The controls are better, the enemies act in a more controlled manner and the second loop has been constructed so that it's challenging without cranking the speed of flying enemies as much.

Personally, I think it's the best game of the two and not just because it has one of my favourite boss designs (Shielder, the first stage boss. Love how it's funny and evil-looking at the same time)
