I've only ever seen the first one, which might be the perfect horror film. This one was better than I thought, but pretty much a precipitous decline from the original film. It had a few nice scenes, made a few good casting choices, and was by far the biggest waste of Dennis Hopper's talent I've seen.

Are they all even further downhill from here?

I don't like 2. And yeah most of the other sequels are worse. I liked the newest one, but...

TCM2 is good if you go in expecting a horror comedy, not a visceral horror film like the first.

Re: Cat's Eye - I love that movie! One of my favorite Stephen King deals.

Old dude with the hammer has to be the funniest and goofiest thing ever in a "serious" horror movie. The movie had no clue if it wanted to be taken serious or not.

Still, I love it.

With a movie poster like that, how could you not expect a horror comedy? It makes me think more Revenge of the Nerds than Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

"And in this scene, Leatherface gets the girl, the evil jock called off the stage and gets pie all over his face, and the whole gang jumps into the air for a freeze frame set to Simple Minds' 'Don't You (Forget About Me)'"

The poster should make you think of Breakfast Club... on purpose.

I didn't think it was possible to send Leatherface to detention.

Dead & Buried

A series of bizarre murders of outsiders is taking place in the lovely, foggy town of Potter's Bluff, and Sheriff Dan Gillis is at a loss as to how to explain what's going on. Now he must face both a hidden murderous violence and his wife's unusual behavior as he uncovers the terrible truth of what's going on.

It's difficult to get into any greater detail then that, as the secret in Potter's Bluff is shocking and disturbing, and knowing what that secret is can change how you view the film. Just know that I loved watching Sheriff Gillis slowly uncover the plot to its twist ending. There's some nasty gore along the way, and some hideous murders(including a syringe used to murder a man that is...well, it's something all right). And rewatching parts of the movie knowing the twist makes my skin crawl.

It's worth watching. Even telling you what kind of horror movie it is will give away too much. Just know that I really enjoyed it, and you're doing yourself a favor going into it blind.
