Yeah, it has been. Layoffs were announced at the end of June. Company morale is in the toilet, and there's a complete lack of confidence in our senior leadership right now. We're told it will be over in a couple of weeks at least, but our parent company, Time Warner, has announced layoffs there, and HBO has rumors flying about open positions disappearing next year.Luke wrote:This has been going on for entirely too long. Apparently they're going division by division, so right now we're not getting any, but folks in other departments we work with are doing theirs today. Lovely.

It must be because of the potential Comcast Buyout of TWC. The rest of the company is probably being slicked down for buyout by another company, Id guess Cox.

Actually Time Warner Cable hasn't been part of Time Warner since 2009. Hell, Time isn't part of Time Warner(which is a good thing, they were a revenue loss).fastbilly1 wrote:It must be because of the potential Comcast Buyout of TWC. And I have no idea if we're being bought out or not. Of course we're being told no. Time Warner won't just sell Turner, as Turner makes up the majority of its revenue. There was an attempt to sell HLN, but it apparently fell through. And Fox made an attempt to buy Time Warner over the summer, but it apparently fell through, so maybe they're putting us up in preparation for someone else or to shop out the whole company again. A Cox purchase is possible.

The reason I suggested Cox is that they just let go of several departments, ie most of Auto Trader Classic.

They're also located in Sandy Springs, thus fulfilling Martin's promise to keep Turner in the Atlanta area. I know Mayor Reed has been applying whatever pressure he can to keep as many Turner jobs as possible in and around the city. No idea if that would actually influence any decisions, but it's something at least.fastbilly1 wrote:The reason I suggested Cox is that they just let go of several departments, ie most of Auto Trader Classic.

Somebody's getting lubed up for Cox, huh?fastbilly1 wrote:It must be because of the potential Comcast Buyout of TWC. The rest of the company is probably being slicked down for buyout by another company, Id guess Cox.
Comcast took stuff over here about 15 years ago. I really wish that hadn't happened. I'd rather deal with AT&T and Verizon.

15 years ago ATT made one helluva sale of their cable base to Comcast - Mediaone, Roadrunner, etc. It is why Comcast became a powerhouse in many states so quickly. But part of that sale was that their phone system would be ATT based for upwards of 50 years (no one seems to have a hard date, atleast one they would tell me). So while Comcast is the pioneer of SIP trunking, they still use ATT PRIs.Cronozilla wrote:Somebody's getting lubed up for Cox, huh?fastbilly1 wrote:It must be because of the potential Comcast Buyout of TWC. I firmly believe that the government should mandate a multi dedicated ISP system in each market. Not just a Cable Provider, a Phone Provider, and a bunch of companies that resell the phone network - which is what we have now. And no satellite is not the answer. You have a hard minimum of 4ms lag no matter what, and lets not talk about the jitter.
Smile - Vacations approved. In sales, getting holiday time is usually tricky. But since I have seniority and submitted my timeoff within seconds of it becoming open, I usually get my time requested. Last year I had to work after Christmas for one day because of a mixup, not this year.
