If I remember correctly, the character from the Quentin Tarantino movie Dusk till Dawn is named after the movie, but I'm not 100% sure. Knowing Quentin though, that's probably where he grabbed the Satanico Pandemonium name from.

Now, I can't say for sure off the top of my head, but the version of The Town that Dreaded Sundown that's found on DVD, along with the streaming versions, has something wrong with it. I want to say that its either a quality of video thing, or something about whether or not it is in widescreen. That may have changed or I may be misinformed, I'm not totally sure. The historical accuracies are commonly compared to the ones in Texas Chainsaw Massacre- namely, they are shit. At least the Town that Dreaded Sundown got the town right. Texas Chainsaw Massacre had the house and the use of face masks right, and that's about it. O'Course, there's a lot of movies based on Ed Gein...

There's also a remake of the Town That Dreaded Sundown coming out on the 16th, though I believe its a straight to DVD affair.
Yeah, that is where Tarantino got the name, though apparently at the time he hadn't seen the movie.

The version I watched of The Town That Dreaded Sundown was a DVD double pack alongside The Evictors, but it was in widescreen. As far as I know, it's the only DVD version to exist.

ah, the recent Scream Factory release. Man, SF is awesome. Their packaging is cool enough I'm half-tempted to replace movies I already own. But a lot of their bonus shiz is amazing. The Halloween boxset that's coming out is going to include uber-rare TV cuts of some of the films for instance.

No...and from what I've read, it may be a while before I get to that one.

Tourist Trap

Hahaha, oh wow, what the hell did I just watch? Tourist Trap is both a slasher flick and something else entirely that is both highly watchable and highly disturbing. This has been my favorite film so far this October. It's creepy, strange, stereotypical in some ways and entirely unique in others. The plot is simple: a group of young people have car trouble and stop at a closed tourist trap wax museum. From there, they find themselves in the hands of a psychic madman and his legions of "living" mannequins. There's an obvious final girl, a maniac with super strength and a love of dolls, and death by plaster! This was an incredible first film for director David Schmoeller, apparently based on a short film he did for his college thesis in film.

Also, talking mannequins with big slit mouths now creep me out. Seriously guys, go watch Tourist Trap. It's awesome!

never cared for Tourist Trap. It's one of those movies that I feel like I *should* like. Like it's got a bunch of stuff that would normally be a movie I enjoy, and something about it just doesn't click with me. The same thing with Boogie Man (the 80's one). That's a movie that if I read about it, I'm like "oh I'd love that," but every time I try to watch it I just end up not into it and shutting it off after a half hour.

Anyone see that House of Wax flick from the 2000s? Pretty by the numbers, but not bad.

I saw that one - years ago. I remember thinking it was a lot more enjoyable than I had expected.
