Can the Sega CD play back VCD's?

Post by StevieC »

Just double-checking. I remember reading somewhere in promotional literature that the model 1 Sega CD could, but want to make sure I wasn't just succombing to wishful thinking

The Saturn even needed extra hardware to run them, so I highly doubt it.

The Sega CD has the Cinepak codec but is limited to a 320x240 resolution when playing video. The VCD standard uses a different resolution:

NTSC: 352x240 and PAL 352x288 so I would say "no".
Popular Systems not owned: Neo-Geo / CD(Z), Multi-Mega(CDX), Megadrive 3, Wii, PSP, TurboExpress, SNES2, MegaCD1

I admit VCD's are rather low-quality but sometimes they're a "better-than-nothing" option. thanks for the compliment about my avatar, though, btw
