Do you categorize your Steam library?

Post by TSTR »

If so, how? If not, why? I spent some time cataloging mine today by very basic genre.

No, I don't. It just takes too much time. Due to HD space concerns, I only keep a small portion of my library installed at any given time, so I can usually find what I've been playing lately.

Back in the very old client they didn't have a separate installed/not installed, so games that I didn't care for I'd categorize away from the games I liked. Now that you can filter down to installed I don't need it anymore.

I used to have them in genres, and then I'd favorite the ones I was really interested in. But then I stopped using the list interface.

I use the steam tiles interface and knowing what's installed is more than enough. It's less than 20 games at any give time, even adding in Non-Steam games.

I sort my unbeaten games by approximately how long it would take me to beat them, and then I have a category for beaten games, and one for games I don't like. (I think I also have a separate one for RPGs...)

I like sorting that way better than genres because I like knowing how much time I'll need to set aside to play a particular game. Also I sometimes have a limited amount of time to play something, so it's nice knowing what I can easily play without having to look up everything every single time.

Yes. I sort my games by Unplayed, Played but not Beaten, Beaten, Completed, and Multiplayer Modes/Demos to separate those from the rest of the list. It was part of a drive to get me to actually finish a lot of Steam games that I have, and I've since made some progress at it.

Two setups:
Finished/Beaten
Unfinished/Unbeaten

I only keep about 20 games installed at any given time, and I am slowly working my way through all those that I have bought but not finished - thank you sales and bundles. But right now most of my time is spent in Pinball Arcade.

I like the fact that you can now put stuff in multiple categories. Makes genre lists so much easier. I also launch certain emulated games via Steam, so having a category for their respective systems is nice.
