We don't all get the inside scoop like you. It's probably hard for someone who knows everything to understand, but us regular folk still get surprised every once in a while, it's a natural reaction.

Book aside, or side, Pike and Affleck are incredible. I think both are incredible in about everything they attempt, which of course entails what they are given.

Siskel always said, "Would I want to watch the movie they are in, or have dinner with people in said movie?". With both Pike and Affleck, please show me the movie. Not a slight jab, but we are talking about some great acting.

Hate to bring back to Batman, but it is invertible (love the typo, so keep).

Ben is great. Great. Super folk and regular folk see through the same glasses. He nails the "I don't have time for this" so well, that even when it doesn't fit, it does.

It seems you thought I meant that I was unpleasantly surprised. I'm a long time fan of Affleck (both of them) and I have never seen Pike in something I didn't like her in. I just wouldn't have guessed them for the parts. Notice I said I would try to get to the cinema to see it, I don't do that if I think the casting is shitty.

Another negative vote for Rosamund Pike. One of the worst mainstream actresses.

word. I've not seen everything they've done, but everything I have seen, I thought they've both been great. By the way, I've not read the book. When you read a book, you picture a character your way. But having seen the movie, I now can't picture anyone else playing this role. Ben knocked it out the park.

The whole cast is perfect. Pike (who I've never seen before in my life), Doogie Howser and OMG Tyler Perry. Tyler Perry killed it.

Again, all Fincher does is win.

Just watched 14 Blades on Netflix. Kinda convoluted story; but Donnie Yen always delivers the martial arts goodness in whatever he plays.

Also re-watched Suspect Zero.

Finally got around to seeing Godzilla tonight. After hearing some complaints and praise, I wasnt sure what I was going to get from it.

Despite some plot holes and ridiculous coincidences the main character keeps encountering, I enjoyed the movie. The big fighting scenes were and the special effects were impressive. I was entertained.

Maybe "narrative closure" wasn't the best term...I just know that the people in the theater were stating
"What?!" or "That's it?!"
when the credits rolled. To me it felt like
the ending was building up to a kind of resolution where Amy would be found out - there were lots of "threads" to unravel in her story, plenty of conflicting elements, etc. That none of that happened and ultimately Nick was trapped in this prison of a marriage at the end was one form of closure, but it seems after doing some reading like the book did a better job setting that up with a bit more exposition, punch, and resolution than the film was able to manage.
It wasn't quite as jarring as something like "No Country for Old Men" (wherein it was AMAZING and lifted an already great film into the stratosphere of best films ever), but people who didn't like the suddenness of that finale may have a similar response to this one...

Now I love "No Country for Old Men" more than most, but I felt it could have benefited from a better denouement. Even after watching the film for the third or fourth time, I found the unresolved ending a bit too nihilistic for my taste. I like that Carla Jean refused to call the coin, but I needed a bit more resolution. I'm not saying every movie needs a "Disney ending". I'm just saying that every movie needs an ending.

Still, what a fantastic movie that was.

I don't know if I could see anything changing in that movie and still getting the same thing out of it. I think the subtext would have been compromised with any other ending. That's my feeling on it, anyway. It is of course, a matter of taste and opinion.

When speaking of the Coens, to pull from Noiseredux "All they do is win."
